More agravations. Why wont it stay at idle?

Well I have done the whole initial set thing and set the idle. If you don't mess with the throttle the car idles fine. But if you hit the throttle it will only go to 1000 or over, and even if you mess with the throttle things on the thrittle body it wont come down. I have heard people say to clean and lube them. What should I use and could there be a different problem? And the timing wont stay either. I set it at the fixed idle, rev itm idle goes up, the turn off engine, start back up, reset idle cause its still messed up and the timming is WAY off. Please help.

Okay, i have an 85, but i have been working on my friends 87, and im planning on dropping an 88 t2 motor in my car *grin*. I would say check your tps, make sure its at 1 volt... Or try a differen't egi... hell, i don't know. I'll get back to you when i start playing with my engine in late december, or something.

The timing will advance from where it was set on the marks, if the engine is rev'd over approx 1200 rpm. Its the ECU that does this advance, so there is not a thing wrong with the timing if you set it on the marks when the idle was say 750-800.

For some reason the throttle plates are stuck open. No slack in the throttle cable??? Try getting some spray lubricant (please, no WD40) and spray the throttle linkage real good.

Is this happening right after you start your car during warm up or at all givin points? Does it not go down at all? When i first start my car up and i hit the throttle it does exactly what your describing but it idles fine after its warmed up, i always thought it was normal for the rpms to go over and stay at like 1500 or maybe 2000 while its first staring. Is this bad??

Its all the time. And the timing wont stay. I know it advances Hailers, But once I get it back dont to idle, Which I have to fiddle with the screw to get it there, the timing is off again. wtf?
