MOP block off plate and shaft... will it walk?

I am installing a K2RD MOP block off plate on my 86 base. I need to know if anything will happen to the shaft that turns the MOP with the gap in between the block off plate and the shaft. I have been told that it will walk and needs to be shimmed, if taken off. I would like to avoid pulling the front cover if possible. - also for anyone curious, this is the same car that has idle/starting problems and with an almost dead battery it pushed 60 lbs of compression on both rotors. I will check it again when the charger gets done and see what its pushing with the starter motor spinning fast.

Nothing will happen to the shaft if you block off the pump. I have an 86 GXL and my car runs fine with the K2RD block off plate.

It is normally recommended that you stick a couple of dimes in the hole to keep the shaft from moving around. I think I put in 4 dimes and a gasket on the outside.

Okay so who is right here

I have two responses and still wondering what to do about the MOP drive shaft. I have heard from two people that it will walk and cause engine damage if left in the front cover. Some say to just pull the front cover and pull the shaft. What do most of you do? Is it safe to just leave it? Shim with Dimes, like the money?? I did not see this anywhere in the archives.
