Ok. Here's the deal. I have a 88 SE w/ power moonroof. It doesn't work. The reason, four colored wires are cut that run to the motor/selinoid setup behind the panel. Unfortunately, it isn't as easy to re-connect them as you would think. The four wires run from the motor to ?

Someone (previous owners, my car has gotten around) pulled the wires out totally or else they have slipped down quite a ways away. I have torn the headliner down to the seat belt on the side and all the way down the side post, but haven't found them.

Does anyone have a parts car they wouldn't mind tearing into to tell me where the wires go? I will tear mine apart again so I can give the colors, but two of them were solid blue and solid brown. I can't remember the other two.

I know this is a long shot, but this is my only hope short of taking it into the dealer to troubleshoot (there goes both nuts and a left leg, don't know their obsession with the left half of the body)

I am hoping someone can just direct me in the right direction on where those wires run to, so I can run new wires if need be to the proper connections.

 

IIRC, the wires run allong the sunroof tray tot he front where they connect to the harness that also runs the dome-light.
I imagine you should have power and ground to the sunroof switch and 2-4 wires that run from the switch to the motor....
Go ahead and takethe headliner off and you'll be able to see the wires and connectors.
something to think about, why did the other guy mess up the wiring in the first place? I'd guess there was something wrong with the thing in the first place....

I realize that something was probably wrong with it. I replaced the switch, but after realizing that was not the sole problem, began to tear into the headliner.

The wires running to the switch are intact. They run back to the plugs near the motor, the wires that are cut run from the motor side of the plugs or off the motor itself.

I am guessing that the four wires do something like this:

Two wires for power and ground
Two wires, which come off the plugs from the switch, are signal wires.

My question, why tear apart the headliner to cut the wires when the fuses and switch itself are so much easy to get to?

 

Someone has got to know where these wires go to.

My suggestion, go down to the local auto parts store and pick up a Haynes manual for your car.(or look on Ebay) They have a complete wiring diagram...also available online is the complete shop manual, which may also help.

The Haynes manual I had covered before I had the car in my possession.

As for the on-line service manual, are you talking about the same manual they have at the dealership? If so, I already have the applicable pages there too. Just gotta find them and try to interpret which four-place plug is which. I am no-where near a schematics genius. I can re-wire this thing, if I know where the wires go.

I am hoping to tear it apart within the next couple weeks and will then post a pic if possible and give some better description to what the color is and where each wire went to.

 

Years ago I rigged up a small (alarm system) 12v battery with a breaker and jumper clips. It's handy for checking everything form solinoids to fans. If you can get 12v on some clips, check the motor and work your way up thr circuit.
