MkII MR.2 n/a vs. s5 GXL

Hey everyone..

I was down picking up my friend from his work, and I noticed a mkII mr2 in the parking lot. Turns out it's one of his co-workers. Really cool guy about it, was complimenting my seven , so of course I had to return the favor, but now I'm curious....

How would a completely stock s5 GXL fare against the likes of a stock, or lightly modded mr2 n/a?

He's a street racer (close to rice... stock looking car, one sticker, chrome rims. Tasteful at least.. unlike the prelude attached for ha-has), and I was thinking about following him out next Sat to check everything out and maybe find out how slow (or fast?) my FC really is. So, let's have your completely honest opinions.

one of my friends had one of those a couple months back. we raced and i pulled on him a little, but it was pretty even, and my car is lightly modded.

If both are stock he should have you off the line being a mid rear car but the race should still be very close i believe the mr2 runs 0-60 around high sevens dont remember the 1/4 mile time though. It will probably come down to driver skill.

Having raced several MkII Turbo MR2's I can tell you a I/H/E S5 NA would stomp on the N/A MkII MR2. I've raced turbo ones 3 times, 1 with stock boost and 2 with upped boost and gutted cats.

Stock boost barely crept away, on a highway roll from 40-80ish like half a car.

Upped boost cars pulled well, around 4-5 cars from 40-100

I think you will destroy him.

I have raced the MR-2 Tubro before from a 45-80mph roll and let's just say it wasn't as fast as I thought it would be. When we shut down you could fit a bicycle between my front bumper and his rear. And that's the TURBO one.

But then again, I'm not stock either. Not quite sure the power/weight ratio on those things but it can't be overly fast. I think it'll be a close race... but you should win.

Yo,

I think you'll do fine. I raced a slightly modded NA MKII MR2 on the freeway in my Scirocco (103 to the wheels) and pulled him. Just practice your launch, that's the most important thing. Do you know if your 6 ports are working?

I dunno but the Performance # thread in the General Automotive section shows a 14.8 1/4 mile for the 94 MR2. That's pretty quick if you ask me.

If I race him, I'm going to try to get it from a10-20mph roll. Should be an interesting race. Need to preserve the clutch, if you know what I mean.

And I'm pretty my 6 ports are working. Pulls hard (well, n/a GXL style hard) all the way up to 7k.

As for the performance numbers.. those seem a little wierd. Are they for stock cars, or modded cars?

Anyways...

hmm I think it is. but it doesn't say that it's the turbo version. must be an error then.
I guess the MR2s n/a are slow.

Yo,

ZenFox, do you know where your six port actuaters are on the left side of the motor? (Standing at the front, looking down.) You'll see two little vacuum actuaters with pistons on 'em, those open your six ports at 5500-6000rpm. I've heard you put a little grease on the full stop point, then drive the car hard. If there is grease on the end of the actuater rod, it's been pushed fully open and to the stop. At least, that's what I /think/ you're supposed to do.

Anyone else?

if he's a ricer, then he probably tries to race anything that moves (raccoons, bicylcles, wheelchairs, Hondas, etc.) ... just kiddin', i actually respect Hondas, just don't tell anyone

but seriously, if your clutch is fine, and your motor is working right, and your suspension rubber isn't sagging too much ... your car should beat an N/A MR2 with "relatively" little problem. they fall flat on their faces at around 5500 RPM. the key will be to get ahead of him before you top out second gear. they do have a healthy torque spread though, so definitely don't get TOO cocky!

the only thing i would focus on is technique as long as your car is fine. play head games with him, try to make HIM get cocky ... then waste his ***!!!!

good luck!

My friend beat one respectively from a redlight. He had just a custom catback on his 92 integra automatic. Oh and they were both people I know and the race was setup(not fixed ) ahead of time.
