Minor mods? Porting worth it?

Hey guys I just purchased a '87 GSL-SE about a week ago with about 160k miles. i know it's not the cream of the crop but i've fallen in love with it. considering i drove an '83 toyota pickup this car is a dream. i've heard a lot of rumors here or there about performance mods on rotary engines. for the most part it seems like there isn't much you can do that is low budget or not time consuming to get more power out of the car. of course exhaust would free it up which is why i was considering cat-back with dual magnaflow. i also heard a lot about porting and how it helps the rpms pull to other than that i couldn't really think of anything else cost efficient to make her go a bit faster, which isn't a problem because i was considering some wheels and tires. the car is 100% stock as of now. so i just wanted some input and some help sicne i'm pretty new to these rotaries and i'm way excited to learn more about them. but no i'm not a guy who doesn't know anything and goes out and buys any car. i know how the motor works runs and operates and i know you can't just go out and buy a high flow head or roller rockers or whatever your desire is. just wanted some input since experience is the best way to learn and i know you all have more than me. thanks.

Porting the engine requires it to be removed from the car and completely disasembled, which basically means it entails rebuilding the engine, which is either not cheap, or not easy. For a street port, it's not usually reccomended unless the engine's being rebuilt anyway.

don't port unless you were going to rebuild it anyway.

Since you're new, i HIGHLY suggest you read the archive and read the faq, seriously. it will be much easier to decide what you want to do once you fully (FULLY) understand what you're working with.
