millenia S supercharger

apparently the mazda millenia S uses a lysholm type supercharger for its 2.3 liter engine. Now I am thinking this is going to be too small, but considering that the lysholm is a generally better design than the roots system used by the eaton supercharger, using two of these might be a better option than a single eaton M90, for those of you keeping track of the supercharging thread by zbrown.

yea, run 2 superchargers in parallel

mounting would be a problem, as well as space though... those are my 2 major concerns.

and finding 2 millenia s's

I thought the millenia used a 2.5 litre engine, based off of the KL series motors found in the MX6 & 626 LS.

*shrug* But two superchargers in parallel? I think that that's not done generally because it's more inefficient than just sucking up the bad individual characteristics of any one supercharger (inefficent, low flow, etc).

If you're bent on doing it this way, you might consider using only one, and porting the supercharger, and just drive it faster (different pulleys).

Um... I don't think that will quite work. By the time the first SC has compressed air, the second SC would be starving for air. It would be like trying to compress air to a second coefficient. It would be remarkably inneficient. Infact the second inline suparcharger probably would do nothing other than restrict airflow.

Have you even looked at the dimentions of a Millenia SC? The thing is over 24" long. You'll have a hard time mounting it in the engine bay...The Eaton M90 from the Ford Supercoupe is around 18" long and it barely fits. (Requires removal of the hard A/C lines going into the firewall) There is no way you'll be able to mount two of those puppies under the hood.

Second, the Eaton Supercharger is not a pure roots blower. It is modified roots by adding a 60 degree twist to the impellers.

no I didn't look at the millenia supercharger... this was just an idea I felt like throwing out because I came up with it late at night and I knew if I didn't throw it out ATM then I would forget...

I talked to a few people about it and I now think that the millenia sc would be a bad idea... especially two of them.

I know the eaton roots is a "modified" roots, but it is still a roots nonetheless and not as good as a lysholm.

but yea, if I do decide to s/c I'll probably use the eaton m90.

There is nothing bad about tossing ideas out there. I looked at a couple of Millenia S/C's on eBay. They are huge and the price is usually higher than an Eaton.

I'm toying with the idea of using a Mercedies S/C. They use a Eaton M62 which would provide plenty of boost up to about 8 PSI. If you look at the Mercedies S/C, they are very short and use an electric clutch. So in theory, you could turn the unit off when cruising.

meh, I'm not worried too much about the approx. 3hp the m90 uses when in bypass mode.

after thinking about it some more, the millenia s/c is even worse. no aftermarket, and it would probably be more expensive to rebuild.

I thought that the C230 supercharger used by Mercedes was the one with the electric clutch, and that the m62 was just a lower version of the m90???

The Millenia was available with two engines, one a 165HP 2.5L V6 and a 210 HP 2.3L supercharged V6 (available only in the S model)

One and the same... Mercedes is using the Eaton M62 S/C with an electric clutch. The housing casting is custom, but internally its an M62.
