Mild emergency

So, I have a pacesetter header that I am installing while the engine is out, and the guy who is doing the cutting and welding for the three prong flange is doing it in the morning. I told him to just hack off the tip, where the stock, two prong flange meets the stock exhaust manifold. Not until I bolted the header to the block did I realize it is WAY long... So, I need to know in a relative hurry, where this header is supposed to be bolted up to. I tried the manufacturer's website looking for maybe like a pdf install or something, but nothing... I know it is late, but this is the best chance i have at not screwing up my build, and again prolonging it getting back on the road. Sorry for being such a noob.

Some pictures to help??

basically what I am thinking will happen, is that since the header replaces the exhuast manifold, and the header is so much longer, will it not push the exhaust system further back if mounted to the exact some spot where the stock exhaust bolts up?? like... damnitt... I wish I could explain this better...

PLEASE HELP!! T_T

Sadly.. You'll have to have a custom presilencer/cat/test-pipe in there - Pacesetter never redesigned their headers from the 84' GSL-SE so it's only correct for that length
Probably something you'll have to ask him to come back and do when the engine's in the car and the catback and header are in place [so he can see exactly how long the car/etc needs to be..]

Let me first start by saying...that is one of the ugliest header welds I have ever seen...

That said: You will need to completely rethink your entire exhaust system when you add ANY header. Most headers, be it Racing Beat/Corksport/'Pacesetter', will NOT bolt up to the stock exhaust with out some form of a mid pipe between the header and y-pipe. For Racing Beat they offer a presilencer that is flanged for their headers, and i'm not entirely familiar with the corksport units either.

What its boiling down to is, once the motor is in, you need to go to an exhaust shop and have them make the final connections as ANY header will replace most of the precats and main cat, but will not exactly bolt to anything in the stock locations.

Seriously? sigh.... alright.... by the way, does anyone know what sort of power gains you can expect from a header design like this? ballpark of what, 5-10 hp?

Don't believe everything you are told.
.......
you have a choice of cutting a 2 pipe header or a one straight pipe cat.I'd cut the cat.

I had a Pacesetter header.. Way too long to work with anything stock - conversely the RB header+presilencer combo will bolt to a stock catback.. Yea, probably good for a few HP, but I felt a bigger gain from my RB catback than either set of headers.. (though I did have the headers on before the catback..)

I was told by someone who had the exact same header that it bolts up to the main cat. measured the overall length and it looks to be about right. Nothing zip ties wont fix haha.

^my thread with some of the same issues^

But I mounted mine up with custom made piece and wound up cutting it back and also cutting off the flange on the cat(went catless anyway) that bolted to the y-pipe. From there I bought 2.5in flex tubing(bout a 18in long) from car quest and a stainless steel band clamp.

Welded the flange on the flex tubing(carefully). Slid the other end of the flex over the 2.5 pipe and rotated/lined up the flanges, bolted it up to the y-pipe, then put the band clamp on the overlap of flex and piping! Simple and ugly but it gets the job done.

Lil late on the responce but if ya got it figured out dont worry.

hp gains= not a lot
I let the p.o. drive it and he said it was noticeable but I only feel a difference in top end.

I would agree that real noticeable gains would be with a ported motor w/stock manifold then take the stock manny off and slap on a header. More flow More power is hard to acheive(if even possible) on stock ports.

i think a STOCK pace setter would bolt to either the main cat or Y pipe, but YOUR header has pretty clearly been hacked up, the collector isn't the stock pacesetter, its had the o2 added (horribly), and the pace setter doesn't come with a 3 bolt flange.

when you put a car on that engine, take it to a muffler shop its a $20 fix....
