Ok jackass....my opinions/comments are not a personal attack on aaron or his work, they are what they are...my opinions. If at the end of the day he is happy then thats all that matters. If you are going to post pics of your work you are bound to find people that are gonna disagree with your taste and thats simply where Im coming from. I could care less what anyone on an online forum has to say about my car and I imagine Aaron is probably the same way.

I've seen it in person and Aaron's engine bay isn't finished, but IMO it looks better than almost any of the ones I saw at Revolution in '04 or that I've seen locally. Those who call it ghetto have zero appreciation for the effort and cost that went into making it look the way it does. It isn't a bolt on manufactured kit.

Mr. Cake, I see my donation to TIINA has been put Into good use. Kudos, for getting all the closer back on the road. It'll take me about 2.5 yrs. When you have some time come on over and help me drop the Diff on my car!

You must really enjoy all this custom fab stuff to justify putting the car down for so long. I personally hate it when I'm throwing a ton of money at my car and it's not even running... I don't know how you could do that for several years. It'll be sweet though when it's done. I just hope you don't get bored with it b/c the project is done and end up selling it two years after you finish it.

your fuel system is NICE! one question (maybe i missed the answer?) why didnt you keep the fuel pump in tank? it looks like its mocked up to go there, but then you mounted it under the car?

It wouldn't fit.

What suspension? Tein/GR-2? :eek!:
The exhaust hangers worked out very well. The exhaust fit perfectly and doesn't rattle around like the stock one. Obviously those hangers won't work in a stock application since I had to weld mounting tabs into the bottom of the car, but if you are going custom they are about 200% better then the rubber doughnuts.

As for the suspension, I have not decided. Tein would be nice but lets face it, I'm not that good a driver. The KYBs with RB springs would be more then enough for me...

Do you have any idea how much money I've spent on this thing?! Those pictures show a little more then $3000 worth of hose and fittings alone...

Ill give you an 'A' for effort and creativity but in the looks department.... Aaron, you painted your entire engine including your intake candy apple red???
Your point?

You have AN fittings all over the place
Huh?

and a mess of wiring throughout the engine bay.
Have you considered that I am not yet done making the harness? If you read the past threads, you will see that anytime I do a standalone install I always leave the harness unwrapped until I am sure that the engine starts. This is so that in case there is a wiring problem, I don't need to tear apart the harness, make splices, etc.

Why not buy a used exhaust system to save yourself some time which might translate into some money savings?
I enjoy building things. Also I would be very hard pressed to find a used dual 2.5" catback in stainless that perfectly matches the custom downpipe and will meet up to my mufflers...It's not at all about saving money, though I must brag that I only have $200 into that catback.

I really hope you dont plan on using those straps to hold the exhaust to the car.
Why not?

Do you really need that big aeromotive fuel pump? Why not use the RP (nippondenso) fuel pump which is probably cheaper and wont require any fabrication. Do you plan on outflowing the RP pump?
I don't immediately plan on using the pump to it's full capacity, but I put together the fuel system with the future in mind. The next engine the car gets will be a full bridge 13B, then after that I'm going to get a little wild. So I put the system together today while thinking of what I might need in the future.

I think "buttload of work" might be an understatement!

Too much practice. Next welding task is to TIG up the new end tanks on the intercooler. I've done very little aluminum welding so I hope it comes out alright...

Yeah, I forgot to mention the alternator. It fit up perfectly. I was worried because it looked like the pulley was out farther then stock, but nope!

I'll help with the diff if you have impact tools...

You have to look at the result sometimes and not the process. I know that when I'm done, I'll have a car that I am 99.9% happy with partly because I did it all. Several years ago I made the decision to just take it off the road and drive the Honda until the RX-7 is completely finished and I don't really regret it. But I am getting very anxious to get the car back on the road.

Primarily because it wouldn't fit. There was no room on the stock fuel pump bracket and there was not enough clearance in the stock sump to fit the pump horizontally (and all the required fittings). I think I'll be needing a new fuel tank in the next few years anyway so at that point I may build one from scratch and make a deep sump (or even a built in surge tank with in tank pump for the surge...).

Exactly. There seems to be a faction of people that thinks everything that doesn't say "Greddy", "HKS" or "Apex'I" is ghetto. I weep for those people.

In any case, no one can deny you did a buttload of work.

Cheers
Chris

Apparently wanting a clean, LOOK AT ME engine bay is out of the question. Ever been to a car show..?

I could have sworn AN fittings...were...a good thing...meh, if you want rubber w/ clamps, go ahead..have fun replacing them often, rofl..

I guess a lot of people mass-market full-exhausts to fit 6-port turbos, with a custom spacer? Hm, thinking...D-

I suppose the fuel pump is FAR to big for a huge *** turbo and bridgeport....

Once again, your attention to detail is amazing. The whole pump assembly is amazing. Its a shame you couldn't put it where it can be seen.
I personally would have painted the engine a color more different from the actual car's color. The engine looks beautiful, though. I'm looking forward to seeing this actually finished.

have you gotten the NEW turbo or decided on what your getting after the break in?

All that really remains before the car is started is the intercooler end tanks and the piping. I actually just finished mounting the cooler up today. End tanks probably Wednesday, Thursday and Friday then I'll weld them up on Saturday. I guess I could start the car right now but I know that as soon as I do I'll want to take it around the block so I would rather have the intercooler and stuff in place. I'm hoping to say two weeks before it starts...

As for turbo, I'm still not sure. Initially I looked at the GT35 but discarded that idea due to the T3 hot side. Apparently you can get a T4 hotside for those things so its now an option again. Locally I can have a shop basically build any turbo I want for the same price so it's hard not to take that option as well. And of course the manifold will depend on the dimensions of the turbo.

Talking

Glad to see it's coming along. Just hang in there, I test drove mine for the first time today. Just went around the block to check things out since it still has no headlights or ins. I think you just might be even more fussy than I am.(if that's possible, you're definitely as fussy.LOL. It's pretty amazing, you spend a couple years building a car and you come to that day when it's ready to drive and you just can't believe it's finally done. It's a good thing I have a first gen in stock to keep me busy when the twin t25 set up is 100% complete.LOL. Best of luck, and thanks for your help(advice) in the past.

Brent

The work is just beautiful, and I like the engine bay detail.

The electrical side of it looks great too; I'm going to be tackling a (somewhat) similar project this winter using marine-grade hardware. I gotta agree with you on the car stereo distribution blocks; they are crap.

I just finished redoing the battery cables and connections in my brother's '94 300ZX (it had emergency battery terminals and corrosion had wicked up the cables a little) and tested it with my 7's Optima Red Top. I went with tinned copper marine cable and terminals because I wanted to overbuild it a little (the quality of the factory wiring is surprisingly good and I wanted to maintain that).

One thing: copper does corrode, are you going to do something to protect the pipes from corrosion?

instead of using copper I have been hearing about those new lines that they use that can expand in the winter. It looks like rubber but isn't.

You are crazy man.
If I can figure out my s5 intake swap then I will prolly ditch it and go wit ha setup like this but I don't have the money to go as crazy as you.
keep up the good work

I used one of those as my E fan for a bit before I did my dual calsonic fans.

Your project amazes me. I plan on putting a eaton m90 onto a carbed s5 6port. How much boost will you be running and how much is safe for the higher compression of the s5 na. Sorry if you already posted the boost your running but Im to pressed for time to read everything. Great workmanship dont listen to the haters.
