I have megan racing gauges in my car but I really want amber faced ones to match the stock cluster. Im considering prosport ones. Any one have any info on them?
how do they compare to the megans?

I have them. They are great. Customer service is also top notch. The Amber matches pretty damn well too

 

STRI makes some nice ones.

 

 

I've got some prosports also. They match pretty well and I've had no issues with them.

 

Sharingan, it would be nice if you were sharing an (get it?) how to on your cluster.

I can't speak for Prosport's having issues, my water temp gauge has worked fine. Once my rebuild is done I'll be adding an oil temp that has been on my shelf for some time as well as an oil pressure.

I know they won some awards at this years SEMA for their newest line of gauges. I don't think those have been released to consumers yet, but I'm betting they have info on their Facebook.

Ive owned prosport, autometer, and AEM gauges. They all worked fine for me.

Um...yea. I've actually got the premium oil pressure and water temp gauges for sale $115 shipped for both, brand new never used.

 

Ditto on the writeup for your cluster request.

I know the stock oil pressure and water temp gauges are crap, but it would also look like crap to have a superfluous gauge cluster next to my radio or sumthin'. I'd be stoked to have a setup that looked like yours. Do these gauges run off the stock senders/sensors? what sizes? where do I buy them?

Both gauges are crap. I have had many customer complaining about the gauge not being accurate. Have you guys checked out www.speedhut.com gauges. Thats what we are using know.

The megans I have never used. The prosport I have and am happy with it, the only thing is for the boost/vac gauges the sending units like to **** out early(just the boost/vac). Myself and 3 of my friends with them have all had the same issue with that.

 

i had the megan ones before i switched to prosport. i like the prosport much more. the wiring is alot easier. cant really say much on the accuracy of them because my car isnt running rite now but when it was i did notice the output from the ecu was a lil different than what was appearing on the gauge.

 

To say "Prosport gauge" isn't really definitive. There are significant differences between the base gauges and the premium series, especially in the senders. I have had my premium series boost/vac gauge for almost 3 years and the sender is bolted to the firewall above the turbo (yea...I know) and it still works fine. I did have some issues w/ accuracy but that turned out to be an issue with the vac source.

 

So what size do I get to fit the stock cluster? The warning feature of the premiums look awesome, but could I screw it into my s5 na cluster?

 

I used 45mm Prosport. However nothing is going to fit the stock S5 circles ...maybe those little cheap sunpro 3 gauge panels? Also, S5 gauge clusters are notoriously pink, so having orange gauges might not look as good. This is why I don't like the s5 cluster.

 

This is what I and friends have been using. Still like the prosports(although I have only used the premiums) just have issues with that, actually still need to replace the sending unit in my speed3.

I do like Sharingan's gauge setup. I've considered doing the same type of thing. I originally mounted my water temp gauge under my headunit. I was intending to put my oil temp and pressure gauges in the same adapter.



What I didn't like about that location was it was too low. I turned the temp gauge sideways so I could see the needle and temps easier once the engine warmed up. Before I blew the front rotor and my rebuild started, I was going to fab up a bracket to swap the headunit to the lower DIN and the gauges above the headunit. I may take the adapter and modify it so the gauges are angled up more. But I own a vert so when the top is down that might result in glare.

I like Sharingan's cause if the gauges aren't in a heads-up location I'm not seeing them as often or as easily as I'd like. I've got my boost gauge on the A pillar. I've got a spare 2 gauge pod for the A pillar. I've considered dropping the oil temp gauge and mounting 3 gauges on the A pillar (boost, water temp, oil pressure).

All that being said. Sharingan how'd you mount those gauges? Are they inside the clear cover? I've got a spare cluster I could tear apart to replicate what you did.

 

Let us know if you have any specific questions, we have been on the board since 2006 helping the Mazda community and since then we have had lots of changes and upgrades. Mainly with senders and movements. I agree, that many years ago we did not have the best quality sender but over time ALL of our senders have changed/upgraded to be more stout and accurate.

 

I do have a question. Are there any other sender options for the 45mm temp gauge? The one included with the gauge is too big to fit the stock rx-7 location in the rear iron.
