mazda 929 master cylinder on an FC?

I need to rebuild my master cylinder. Someone told me that you could put the 929 MC on the FC. True? This was suggested because the 929 cylinder is apparenly larger and should give better braking.

Thoughts?

its a bolt on upgrade, only requiring reshaping some of the line to the proportioning valve. Need to make sure you have correct one, ABS, non ABS. I adds a better pedal feel for those with bigger brake calipers.

I've been trying to figure out how to get better brakes without a thousand dollar cost. I've got the slotted/cross drilled rotors and stainless steel braided lines in the mail. Thanks!

How do you determine what year 929 to order the part for?

And what if you have the stock calipers?

you dont really need to upgrade it if you have the stock brakes, the stock master is good enough. 93+ 929

Well my master cylinder is going out as well, and brake upgrade is on the list.... should I just go ahead and throw the 929's MC on?

what exactly is the proportioning valve, where is it? and are there any other options other than rebending, such as getting stainless braided lines???

the proportion valve sends a certain percentage of fluid to the fronts and rear. Yes, you could do SS lines. Thats what i recommend if you gonna slam your ***** to wall. Bending them can be a bit tricky.

is there a line that would replace the fc line so that no bending is required? what is the ABSOLUTE best way to bend the lines (how does the factory do it??)

The factory would subcontract it out to a company with a huge (probably robotic) machine that would bend them in a jig and spit out dozens an hour! Brake shops have simple hand tools for bending brake lines, but it’s quite easily bent by hand. Just be careful and keep the bend radiuses large to avoid kinking it.

It's called a "tube bender".&nbsp It has a special radius for where the pipe sits in when you bend it keeping it from kinking...

the calipers bolt right on. The brake rotors however, do not. Im using stock FC rotors with FD calipers. The brake pad sweep is the same. Not what i would call an upgrade, they are the same size. But, i had a set lying around. =]

Does the 929 master cylinder come with a proportioning valve stock? or is it an extra add on... because most master cylinders on most cars don't have them....

also how do figure out the right adjustments for the master cylinder for the rx-7?

Do you just put a small wrench and some tools and go find an empty road... get it up to speed and slam on the brakes and see which end locks first? or is there a better way to do this?

FInally if you go by the crude methoid above.... it doesn't really work for ABS cars right? because u'll never know which end locked up first.

If you go with a non abs unit, and your car had abs on it... wouldn't the ECU keep on displaying the ABS light telling you theres a problem with it after swtiching to the abs unit?

The proportioning valve is not adjustable on the RX7....and....it's not built into the master cylinder...it's seperate. I ASSUME it's the same on the 929. The advantage is that the larger diameter of the 929 master cylinder means less pedal travel is needed to produce the same amount of braking.

the brake masters do not coming with a proportioning valve. You want to use the stock one. Do not use a 929 one if you decide to buy a used one.
