mayday, mayday.......turbo is down, i repeat turbo is down!!!

ok, so it was just another day of breaking my new engine in, so I let it warm up and then just drove around the block nad then right before I pull back in my drive way the car starts to make a rattling sound like I never heard before, then the whole car strerts to shake so as soon as I get in the drive way I shut it off. I let it sit for a while before starting it again and after doing some investigating I notice this rattling noise was coming from the turbo area. I took off the intake and there it was. I could shake that turbo shaft around like a 1/4 inch, I could feel it scrape the housing, ouch!!!!
Now I don't have alot of money to buy a turbo, like around $500, give or take, so my question is, should I try and find a good stock turbo, or try and find a good aftermarket turbo. my engine is set up to run a bigger turbo if I wanted it too. any advice would help me in picking a turbo out. I'm kinda new so I don't really understand all that t04/to3/t66 crap.

what year is your RX-7? if your not looking for high performance, then get a series 5 turbo because it's very reliable because the wastegate (a spring that opens up a hole at certain pressure to relieve boost - to control it). T04E is like the newer version of T04B i believe, their very large, will lag a honda but do our RX-7s pretty well, T03 is what you have right now stock, and T66 is like all out 500hp+. If your into larger turbo get something that has a 1.0 and up TURBINE housing (hot side/exhaust side) and atleast .60 (cold/intake side) compresser. I say a T04B is enough or a T04E because their good for mid-range performance (street usage). But you can only run low *** PSI, about 6-7, i think.

Stock Fuel system and Intercooler isn't good enough.

For great responce and etc, find a series 5 turbo and hybrid it, that should do you good. HYBRID - mixing different compressor (cold side) on youur stock exhaust side

Ouch. Was the compressor wheel still intact? Why was it running so badly? I really hope no pieces went through your new engine.

Here's a thread from a guy with a similar problem.

A hybrid S5 setup would be the way to go, but I'm not sure $500 would cover it or not.

If you go with anything other than a stock hotside you're looking at a bunch of extra $ for manifold etc., not to mention a better IC.

o yeah, larger turbo you need new manifold, wastegate, oil lines, etc.. that can add up to 1000! so yeah, those are ebay prices too. i say if your don't really want to waste (invest is the word for me) then get a turbo and manifold from a series 5, and hybrid it. or not do anything and just get s5 turbo and mani and leave it the hell alone, buy apexi afc and some 720cc injectors, to keep everythign "safe"

even if you get this turbo, u still need a manifold, it's about 250 for hks undivide one , oil lines, and wastegate for this turbo you would need atleast 40mm wastegate to prevent yourself from creeping or spiking....boost controller, intercooler.

divided or non divided means
split or no split on the turbo

since this is divided u would need a divided manifold to completly take advantage of the divided-ness.

divide helps turbo spool fast, as so people says. but if you plan go with a cheap non-divided manifold it'll still work out great.

i've seen this guy on ebay for many times, he buys turbo and sell it, i think, but it looks like he has a rx7 himself(look at his name), well this turbo seems really good, seeing that is 1.15 ar is really nice for rotaries, 60 compresser is alright, turbo looks good, but do you have the money for the rest?

i do and I don't have the money, it just depends on how long on I want the car to sit in my garage.
so I just want to make sure I have this right. that turbo won't bolt up to the stock maifold? I need to get a waste gate, how much are those? and oil lines, are they hard to find, or is that somthing I have made? I know the fmic would be the biggest chunk of change i would have to come up with. do recomend buying a kit or doing it yourself?

If I where in your shoes, I would go with a used S5 turbo/manifold for now, to keep your car running. You can upgrade and bolt it in without too much hassle.

Don't dive into the big turbo upgrade untill you have a lot of $$$, because that's what it costs.

as much as I want a big turbo I am feeling more like i will go with and S5 and hybird it. is this conversion difficult in the way of finding a good cold side to go with the hot side? what size should i find if I want to boost more then stock, lets say around 15psi?

How about a T04B compressor / Series 5 Turbine and manifold. That's seems to be a popular hybrid.

T04 compressor and stock s5 manifold is good, good for 15 PSI MAX. After 15 psi the efficiency dies out because it just give heat instead compressing the air.

scott you are snorting cocaine dude.

anyways, why dont you just get a nice used t04 hybrid for like 250-300 bucks? they use a t04 compressor and the stock hotside. good for like 300 at the wheels or so. then all you need is secondary injectors and your **** is pimpin.

if you don't know anything about turbo i suggest you let someone else do the hybriding, because you may hafta balance everything to get everything pefectly, bnrsupercars.com does them, looks pricy but it's very worth it, if you just install a compressor yorself without knowing the precautions then ur just wasting your money on this setup. There is alot of company does hybrid turbos though, but i know bnr has a great rep and does it mostly for RX-7s.

http://www.lourdsmusic.com/bnrsupercars/

there is another thing, thepartstrader.com that's where i do my sale and buying, you can find someone with a hybrid setup already that is selling theirs.
