Maybe a rice question: how to make the turbo louder
I am sorta interested in making the turbo louder. I work around jets all day(aircraft mechanic), and i figured it would be cool if i could hear a little more spool. Currently I can hear when the windows are up. But wanted to know if they would ever be as loud as say a roots type blower?

Run it with no filter, tubing etc. just open turbo inlet. :-)
Although this would be very bad for daily driven car.
Runing a K&N cone filter will make it a bit louder and increase performance.

Get rid of the stock air box... Get yourself a straight turbo inlet duct... get rid of that crazy S-type set up... Mine has a straight TID and a mushroom type filter.. When it spools you can hear it suck in the air and the high pitch turbo noise...
Have an exhaust leak on your downpipe, my non-rotary sounds like a 747 even when its still in vacuum. i gotta get around to fixing that ,gets me some odd looks
But seriously though, any metal tubing in the intake system will help add some noise.

did you make yours or do they sell them
well there is one way to my your turbo quite loud, stick a micrphone up next to your turbo and then hook the microphone up to your PHAT stereo
p.s. sorry with a thread like this i had to be an ***, no offense

the S shaped TID is ribbed specifically to muffle these kinda sounds...
make a hard intake pipe with cone filter and that'll help.... ( u can BOV to atmosphere after that if u want to)
the other reason our turbo's aren't that loud is the Top mount IC piping route is SO short..
Go FMIC with hard pipes and see the difference...

As has been mentioned, a TID makes a big difference. It does sound pretty cool.
You could also take a pair of clippers to your turbo and remove a peice of compressor or turbine to unbalance the turbo.
It will really wail, but you'd be seriously compromising it's lifespan.
So it has been proposed that the naturally aspirated R26B form a 787B will make a louder turbo sound?

"My turbo sounds like I"m running 25psi, when I"m only running 8 :/"
thats because your wheel has to much play. I had another turbo that did this. It sounded mean as hell because the wheel was hitting the housing. Won't be long before you will be replacing it or it blows through your engine.
