Maybe new things to try on a N/A, faster!
My race car had a engine fire, so I've been playing around with my non-turbo daily driver. Its a 1990 N/A. I rebuilt the motor, and street ported Very large, racing beat exhaust and upgraded air filter, no 6-port sleaves.
Anyway, I wanted shorter gearing, but didnt want to plunk down $300 on a GTUs rear end. So after seeing that I had a first gen tranny laying around, I went ahead and swaped them.
The First gne tranny is the same as a second gen, with the exception of the case , and tail housing. I simply swaped the rear tail housing, and the speedo main gear, and put it back on. Also note to switch the front cover plate on the tranny as the second gen has a steel one, while the 1st gen are aluminum (weaker, more flex?)
BUT DAMN!! After the swap I now have shorter gearing, and best of all, a nice close fifth gear!!! I dont know about you guys but 5th gear sucks sooooo bad on the second gen n/a !!! So I love this very cheap mod!!
The other thing I changed, was the AFM. For the longest time, my car would cut out at high rpm, and I thought it didnt have enough fuel from the port work. But after today, I put on a wideband 02 meter, and it was rich as hell! 9.3 afr at 7500rpms! So I switch over to my old TII AFM (stiffer spring) as a poor mans super AFC, and it worked! It now runs much better across the board(12.3), but still runs a little rich a little bit in the 7500 rpms(10.8), but much better ! Still could use a super afc to lean just a little more though.
So that is my two cheap mods!!

Get on a dyno before making claims that 10.3 is too rich. When we dyno tuned my S-AFC we dropped the A/F into the 11.8 range and lost power, she perferred something more in the low tens to get good power out. Turns out my N/A thinks it's a turbo motor.
