I have a rebuilt motor in my 87 n/a and it just consumes gas according to the 17-19 miles per gallon in town. I get about 13-15. I've never got anything more than 15. I've changed spark plugs and the O2 sensor, but that only brought me up about 1 more mile per gallon. When trying to see if I could get 17 miles to the gallon, I shift between 2800 and 3200 rpms. Can anyone tell me how to get more gas mileage out of my car?
You need to occasionaly redline It. Running It below 3200 rpms are not allowing you to blow out the carbon In your motor, let alone having your Auxilliary Ports open up. Both constituting poor fuel milage.

Seriously, I'll drive 15 minutes out of my way to take the highway so I can save a half gallon of gas...

MY gtu got great mileage on the highway over longer runs.. like 28.. in the city and if i was lead footin it... forget it.. it was around 15
your s4 motor is going to consume more gas than an s5,, just the nature of the beast.
However.. these things MAY increase your gas mileage.... properly inflated tires, cheap hard tires (less rolling resistance), use the gas pedal like you got an eggshell under your foot (that mash of the throttle will REALLY suck gas even if you shift low) get your injectors cleaned (bad spray patterns = inneficient combustion) If you have an after market spoiler, subtract a few MPG. Do not use the A/C ...that sucks gas like crazy, upgrade oils in your tranny and rear (readline, etc), make sure your clutch is not slipping or the e-brake hanging up get an SAFC and take some fuel out (if you have a full exhaust and a cone filter, most N/A's run rich.. but have a tuner do it to be safe)
