Maxima Sucks or I am Quick?

I ran a maxima today, a 99, it had exhaust, intake, and a bunch of little ****, i got an 86 gxl with 245's in the back, 225's in the front, cold air box, cone filter, straight back 2 1/2 to a magnaflow muffler. His was stick, so is mine, he launched ok, but i can launch great, I just kept pulling on him and pulling on him ( I consider myself a pretty good shifter) until he gave up, i put the lights iup, and it was over, everyone was amazed, after that, the honduhscame oozing in and one by one i whooped the si's, all basically stock, nothing drastic done to them. Was my win normal, or is this sme sort of miraculous act of an fc god?

Must have been a bad driver, because that Maxima should have stomped you with 100HP more and only 500 lbs heavier.

He should have whomped you.

My dad is about to pick up a new one of these... as nice as it is, I am not too impressed.

He was offered a two year lease through his company on ANY car that can be leased, and a new vehicle when the lease runs out.

I told him I had 3 letters for him: B.... M.... and W

....and he chooses a Maxima.

Oh well. At least I talked him out of a toyota camry.....

Ben.

How did you get 225 on the front of your car? Do you have stock rims or not.

Its possible. My friend has a 2 year old Maxima with exhaust and intake. I didnt beat him, but last year with my old 86 with 220,000 miles on the odometer, i was able to keep up with him until about 80 mph. from there he was able to pull ahead pretty good.

That 86 had intake and full exhaust with one cat. I raced him this year in my 88 TII and spanked him pretty good.

I had a 97 GLE so I really know about Maximas and there is no way a n/a FC could have won unless the driver of the Maxima wasn't really racing or just can't drive.

Lets see;
Gen 4 Maxima - 190HP and 205 torque weighs in at ~3100
S4 FC - 146HP and 130 (?) torque wighs in at ~2700

yeah ok.

I raced a newer Maxima 2001 with the 3.5 V-6...

I was impressed, this guy raced me from a 90 MPH roll up hill to 145 MPH and he was losing slowly... very impressive for a 4 door car... I think he was running NOS...

Once again, this illustrates the factor of SKILL when it comes to racing... I have beaten an M3 before... does that make my CAR faster? no, I was faster

Im still on The Maxima's side in the much debated, "Maxima vs. NA" debate. The most common Maxima on the streets today are the mid-nineties models.

We're talkin about a car that is a full 2 seconds faster to 60 MPH and almost a full 2 seconds faster in the 1/4. Yet NA drivers CLAIM to beat them everyday. A stock TII would lose to mid-nineties Maxima if both cars were driven correctly in the 1/4...not by much, but it would.

In order for someone driving an NA to beat one, they would either have to be HEAVILY modded racing a stock Maxima, or the Maxima driver must either not know they are racing, or not fully grasp the concept of accelerating.

I've got a N/A '86 and an '87 maxima (5spd). The 87 is slower than many of the newer maxima's and it can run with my N/A.

Maxima's are fast especially the 2002 versions with the 3.5 L (250hp oh yah) they started puting 6speeds in them in oct of 2002 and that made them even better.

I owned an '03 Maxima 6 -speed for about 3 months. I found the car to be pretty quick, but what a POS it was. Traded it in at 6k, took a beating on it, but was I ever happy to be rid of it. Poor build quality, extremely poor suspension, rattles, severe tip in hesitation on the drive by wire throttle to name just a few. My first Nissan and definately my last. My wife likes the new Z, but now, no f'in way. I not so affectionately called it my japanese Ford.

It's all about the driver, but if this was just a spec sheet (as most people must think this world is) you'd probably get your *** handed to you.

I had a 90 single cam maxima with a 2 1/2" cat free exhaust, 5spd. I raced my friends 90 GXL 5spd, no airpump, headers, and hks exhaust. I took him by several car lengths repeatedly. Liked the car, but traded it for another 7.

Oh yea...forgot to say that Maxima's are very quick sedans/saloons! They have nice engines (especially the '02 one), the styling is pretty good (not too keen on the newer styling), and they're everyday STEALTHY cars.

Good job to you (or bad job to him, depending on how you look at it). The Maxima should've seriously whooped you. Those things are not to be messed with.

One question though: 245's on the rear? How much HP and torque you got from all those upgrades? U need quite a bit to propel those babies...

I was thinking the samething, but doubted that he was really worried about the power the tires robbed (sry). As much as I'd like to put some 245's outback with 17's and 225's with 16's up front it's just not a good combination for the power my car is tuned to have. But damn would it look nice and handle well (but then the chassis would be unbalance...not enough power to keep it all equal). But anyway...what kinda power do you have (estimate)?

who knows what condition that car was in. there are tooo many variables on the street to call him on it. if he says he beat him good for him. I have driven a 94 maxima that was slow as hell, but it was screwed up. maybe this maxima in question was fucked up in some way, maybe the driver is a retard. but either way if he is ahead of him, he won, bottom line.

imo, any time anyone claims a victory on this forum, they should be ready do be doubted. there are so many cars out there with so many different conditions of performance no one can say anything unless they were an eyewitness to it.

He listed an intake and exhaust as his mods in the first post. At best what, an extra 20hp? So lets say, optimistically, 170hp @ the motor, figure 145 stock plus generous on the mods. Not nearly enough for those tires. If you want 17's, run some 225/45/17 all around. I had Yokohama A520's,now I have some crappy Kuhmo's
