Question Master Cylinder/Power BrakeBoost Unit

Hello,
I'm having prob's with my brakes.
There was leakage between the Master Cyninder and Power Boost Unit, so I have removed the MC. I discovered that the nut (the one that fits around the rod that comes out of the centre of the power boost unit) was loose.

I didn't have any problems with the pressure when pressing the peddle before, I just kept topping up the MC - and they worked for quite a while until it became a flood of fluid out of the MC (rather than a drip).

What should I do? Common sense says that I should tighten it up.
I have read on a previous thread that to check the power boost unit, I should switch on the engine and see if I can hear any air leaving the unit. Is this correct.

Sorry, loads of questions:
Is it possible to change the washers on the master cylinder? And is is wise too ?

If not, is there any supplier in the USA that will ship parts to the UK?
I was quoted 450 DOLLARS!!! for a new MC.

All advice/ thoughts is very gratefully received.

Chris Wilson

Xtreme,
Thanks for the reply.
It's 270 pounds sterling which is about 450 US dollars.

It is pretty impossible to get new parts all have to be ordered through Mazda main dealers or specialists in the UK. Hence, their ripoff prices. The cheapest I was quoted was 220 pounds without tax (17.5%).

If you know of any parts supplier that does international shipping for customers I would be most grateful.

Chris

I would like to replace both but I have been warned about removing the brake booster- don't you have to remove the dash board to get at it ?
Thanks once again.

Well...Im not sure about removal of the booster/power brake unit. The FSM is very vague about the removal of it. (BTW, if you dont have the Factory Service Manual for your car, visit here: http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory...ual/1986_1988/ for 86-88 or here: http://www.teamfc3s.org/main/factory...ual/1989_1991/ for 89-91).

This place: www.diyautoparts.com has decent prices, but they dont seem to have the brake booster. I did call them and they said that they DO ship international. They have an 800 number under Contact Us if you want to call them. Mike (or Mark) is a really nice guy. I just ordered my exhaust for my accord from there last week (should be arriving today).

Ill keep looking for other places that ship international...but maybe someone else knows of some companies that do.

And that price of $450 US dollars....would that be for JUST the MC, or for both the MC and the booster?

**EDIT** Check out this link:
http://www.pricingcentral.com/mazda/rx7.html

There are some links to different sites that sell RX7 parts and you can check with them to see if they ship international.

jhammons01,
Thanks for the offer. I'll try a few US suppliers first and then I'll take up your offer if I can't organise it thru them.
A lot of the web sites mention TAX and IMPORT DUTY, I would really like to avoid these ;-) .

I'll PM you in the next few days.
Thanks
Chris
