Which is it, and what fluid do I put in it? Whatever it is, it is lower than the "Minimum" line!

I think you meant trailing coil pack, but its for the clutch. put brake fluid in it.

 

the reservoir attached the large disk shaped thingy on the firewall, is the brake master cylinder.

The smaller, shot glass sized on is the clutch fluid reservoir.

 

Yeah, it is attached to the cylinder on the firewall. So it is the brake, hunh? What do I put in it? Any special brake fliud? It says "Use DOT 3" on it, so I assume that is what I use?

After the fiasco with GROUNDING THE BATTERY, a thread which i have read in disbeleif, I advise you to be more careful.....

it tells you to put in DOT 3 brake fluid, so use that.

The brake cylinder is reservoiris larger than the clutch one.

This is logical, because the braking system is larger than the clutch system. (by far)

You need a Haynes manual.
You should read it front to back, and then back to front.

I'm still trying to formulate a response to the thread about you grounding the battery.

The Haynes is my next purchase, but while I am at NAPA buying it, I need to pick up some brake fluid as well! I am such a lucky S.O.B.

hahaha, yeah....the clutch is the small one looks like a shot glass. the one the size of a large matchbox is brake... I got the hayanes manual...man it's based on a complete teardown. But it doesn't telly you easy things sometimes...like small electrical troubleshooting

 

Both clutch and the brake system work on Hydraulics and therefore can share the same hydraulic fluid. DOT 3 should be the minimum that you should use and i wouldn't recommend anything lower. I would use Valvoline Full Synthetic. You can purchase this at most automotive retail stores. I would highly recommend that you FLUSH out all fluid that doesn't look fresh or has a light brown color to it. Just my .2 cents.
Who said what about grounding the battery???????

 

DO NOT USE Synthetic brake fluid. your whole brake system will fail and you will need to replace every single part of the brake system. just use standard dot 4 brake fluid. stay away from dot 5!!

 

If you want a brand name, get Castrol LMA - It's DOT 4. Costs about $5.00 a quart at Pep Boys. The LMA stands for Low Moisture Absorbency. (Brake fluid absorbs water vapor, and that's what causes calipers to rust internally.) Scott is correct. DO NOT USE SYNTHETIC. And take Sniper's advice and LEARN about the car before you go about trying to fix things. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches and money. If you are at the level where you are still learning about which master cylinder is which, be VERY careful about working on any other part of the car. Remember the old saying - "A LITTLE knowledge is dangerous."

 

The other thing you can do before you run to your computer and add a new thread is to open your eyes and look to see where the fluid goes from the master cylinder. The one for the brakes has one line out that's about 12-15" inches long to the back of the engine. Let's see, is that for brakes?? Sorry for the directness, but use your head!
