Massive surging (total cut out for few seconds) + vac leaks + idle +fix

Ok.. few days ago i posted about surging issues.

Well yesturday started an issue where the entire car would compeltely cut out at 1/2+ throttle. Imaging trying to accelearte, have the car cut out, and then come back online a few seconds later... MASSSIVE jerking. + no idle meat always hell/toe on approaching stoplights and stopping.

It only got worse today, so bad that i had to pull over downtown and start looking for what I thought were vac leaks.

I pulled all the vac lines out of the engine bay right downtown. Started hooking everything back up. Started, still cuts out.

Opened up my toolbox (always with me in the hatch, for occasions like this) and pulled out a handful of vac caps. I figured... **** the vac lines...

So I start to cap off everything-- fuel injector bleeds, FPR... everything. Try to start, still cuts out.

Then I got it started but it wouldn't stay running below 3k or above 4k. So I had my buddy hold it at about 3250 while I sprayed all connections with carb clearner. no response.

So... I was out of ideas.

Then I remembered a couple years back when I installed a fuel cut switch to keep from flooding (was an issue back then) and I had removed and rewired the switch when I did the 5spd swap.

So I start to tear down the interrior pieces looking for where I wired the two switch leads together. Turns out when I found them, I had soldered them together. So that wasn't it. I to start again, but this time I heard some massive relay chatter coming from the steering column.

THATS IT!

I knew right then and there what it was-- fuel control relay. I put the seat all the way back and ducked under the dash. Sure enough, the fuel relay had come pinched between the steering column and part of the pedal assembly. Part of the harness had come undone.

I reattatched the harness, ziptied it up.

Drove home *WITH* a 900rpm idle.

All I have to do now is redo all the vac lines again.

What an awesome find!

it appears as though I have finaly also sealed the front pulley bolt oil leak.

After 3 months of blowby all over the engine bay and hood, it appears to be sealed. (1 week after a wash and fix and it all still looks clean)
