Marjor Vibration, Backfire, Poweloss
Hey guys, before I posted a thread about the problems I was having, and I changed the mass air flow sensor and the car started to run like a champ. I noticed that the car was iding around 800 rpms, but when putting the car in nutural (while coming to a stop) the idle would drop almost to nothing, then would raise back up to 800.
I adjusted that screw on the top of the intake to see if there was any diffrence, and there wasn't. After doing that, a new problem arose.
When I start the car up, the engine idles at around 300-400 and there is tons of vibration coming from the engine bay, and lots of small engine backfireing, and from the tail pipes. When I rev the engine to 1k and keep it steady, it stop shaking, if I go alittle higher it begins to backfire more.
I'm afraid to drive the car, so I'm basicly stuck right now (bus/walking/cabs). The plugs, wires and mass air flow senser are all new. Any idea what I did and what I can do to fix this?
PS: Lite white smoke puffs out the tail points, and the engine now has a deeper sound to it, unlike the ussaly higher pitch sound. It just sounds really muffled when the engine is running

1988 NA engine was rebuilt about 7 years ago. 120k miles total on engine. I bought the car off a friend, he has had it about 6 years, never had any problems.
I just took the car around the block and there is NO power what so ever, car will go, just not very fast and load back fires after droping 2k.
The car is totaly stock, no changes other then the ones I mentioned above.

It sounds exactly like a bad water Thermo sensor on the bottom of the Radiator. It's the sensor with 2 black plugs going into it. Replace that and it should run better upon start up. Mine did that when I had mine unplugged for a while. If you get a new one, it'll run like a champ I'm sure.
