manually pulsing injectors?

Yo.. I'm cheap. Can I like, fill a hose with engine degreaser or fuel system cleaner, put it on the end of the injector, blow into it, and somehow pulse the injector to get it thru? Maybe touching it to the battery terminals (maybe thru a resistor?) If air goes thru the injector, is that "bad"?

I know, I know, "send them off to be cleaned!!".. but I can't afford that right now. I'm just looking for something to get me by until I take the engine apart later.

Just run a bottle of injector cleaner through your next tank of gas. I recomend Chevron Techron F.I. cleaner. it works better than anything else I have seen. You wouldnt be able to clean them good enough to make it worth the time to pull them out. I have done it before, and it car be done, by touching the wires to a 12V battery, but it didnt do much, if anything.

Take your secondary rail off and hang the injectors out of their bores. Plastic zip tie the injectors to the rail. Put a catch tank under the injectors (a glass, a cup etc). I used a old injector plug with two wires. One to ground, the other to the battery when the appropriate time comes. Now jumper the fuel jumper plug on the r/h strut tower(on or near). Its a two socket plug. Turn the ingnition key to the on (no start please). Now the fuel rails are pressurized. Now touch that wire to the battery plus. The injectors WILL inject fluid into the container. See the factory manual at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com section 4a for the requirements i.e. cc per minute. Or heck, if you just wanna open one, take it out and put a ground on one and 12v on the other. Hanging off the fuel rail makes more sense. You can see if they are leaking and measure the flow. There are some catches to that last sentence, but I won't bother you with them/.

Hey Tesla. If you are talking about the '87 here, I would check if your car has a solenoid resistor assembly around where the stock airbox sits. If it does, I would use a 6 ohm 10 watt resistor in series with 12V to pulse the injectors (don't wanna burn up low impedance injectors!). Also, many years ago a shop where I had my car serviced set up just such a rig. The difference between what you want to do and his rig was the addition of a hand pump w/gage to the top of the injector cleaning fluid tank. Unless you can blow at 28-39 psi, I don't think you will have much success, since I am sure the pintles are spring loaded to require that much pressure to force a spray pattern imho (uh, if you can blow this kind of pressure, I'm bowing out of this discussion, it is getting too racy for me!!). Have fun!

Irv, sounds like I've been getting away with murder. Done it several times as described above without any resistor. I'll use a little care next time, although I've been leaving the 12v on for a full minute to measure the flow rate. Should'nt be hard to make a work around using the resistor assy. Just jumper from the original injector plug for the power and run a ground to the other pin. Its an interesting little project for measuring the output of an injector.
