Any type of synthetic oil will help make the shifting smoother, even in a new transmission.

Rebuild parts are available for the transmission, and any good transmission shop can perform the work. ISC Racing does a great job of rebuilding transmissions and modifying them for competition in SCCA IT/EP events.

Its probably much easier/cheaper to just find a low mileage trans. I see them on craigslist all the time, look around the classifieds too.

You lack the skill to properly rebuild the transmission yourself.

Manual trans rebuild kits are a joke. You have no idea what you need until you open it up.

i don't know where all these "low mileage" motors and transmission come from but i for one don't buy it and don't wanna gamble it if i can't test it before i buy it.
how often do you see a low mileage fc for sale? not very. but for some reason there are all these low mileage working motors and transmissions floating around? i dont think so.

It's because in Japan they have to change their engines about every 20,000 miles, so there are a lot being imported. But by all means rebuild away.

im sorry but that is simply not true, 20,000 miles is a made up number and there isn't even any set number in the first place. japanese cars are usually recycled/exported once they fail to pass emissions "shaken", which is also much more leniant than the united states.
im assuming what actually happens is that many of the exporting companies just make up mileage numbers on thier exported parts.

i also talked to a friend who lived in japan for a year.
