Talking Makin some noise in the N/A

I got bored so I decided to make some mp3's of the '87 sport. Exhaust = 2.5" straight to a resonator located in the cat's spot, straight to a 2.5" y, straight out to two Bomz EVO N1 Specs (yes the cheapies you see on ebay). Don't mind the shitty quality, have to lower the mic volume a bit next time.

Oh, and those pops you here, are indeed flames.

First up, with the silencers:

Now full open (sounds better in person):
http://www.sonicrat.org/~rat/cars/rx7-3/open.mp3

Total mileage on these mufflers: 3,740 miles and holding up well.

Most rx7's pop like that, though most of the time they won't shoot a flame unless you rev sky high, mine tends to shoot them at any rpm it chooses.

Sounds pimp as hell.

They backfire the more you pull back pressure. My buddy's 87 with a banged out cat popped. Later when he put a racing header and straight pipes on an 86, it would throw flames and the backfires sound like gunshots.

It typical backfires on deceleration around 4-4.5krpm, and if I'm trying to shoot large two footers I just bring it to about 7.5krpm and it'll pop nicely

They sound a lot better in person when they're open, depressingly enough the damn mic's volume was set too high when recording, so it sort of got a bit overpowered and didn't sound so well. All in all I'm happy for how cheap it was

I just bought those too. its the set from R1Sports or something like that Bomz EVO N1 copies with the "tunable" exhuast? Like $129?

I have yet to install them, but they look ok. The welds Look nice, but my dad, a welder, said "These welds are crap, see this pin hole, and this, etc, screw computers, I can do 10X the job with my eyes closed!". For the price, I really can't complain. Beats the 2 offset mufflers I have, connect in the middle, and tailpipe comes out the lower center (only 2" also).

Mine will be:stock manifold -> 3" -> Y -> 2 1/2" -> Bomz EVO's on either side. Just picked up 2 points on the pimp factor

Thanks for the preview! If I get my car back together (see hot car + grass field = brown, white fc thread).

I just read about that, sorry to hear man! But you'll be happy with the exhaust, I've beat the hell out of it so far and it's holding up well. I've got the resonator on their to get rid of the drone, so they might sound a little different. The sound hasn't changed either, like with most mufflers that 'break in', it's stayed teh same. The silencers will end up looking like they're burnt to a crisp after the first drive with them, but the exhaust itself will stay looking shiney and such. I'm probably going to make a few more mp3's later, hopefully a little better quality. Here's a pic with them on.

Wow man, those actually sound really nice. Even though the quality isn't that great, they sound very good. They don't look too bad coming out the back either (this coming from a man who's not really fond of any tip over 50mm...what are the tips like 60mm? 70?). Nice car too , can't wait to hear some more mp3s in better quality!

It only looks nice from that side, it was rolled over so there's a fair bit of body damage I'm going to try to make some better mp3's tomorrow where it doesn't overpower the damn mic, but I was in a hurry. They're 4" accross, whatever that is

On the cutouts on my rear bumper, it's black underneath and actually bent up a little on the passenger side. Yeah, it was already like that when I got it. The exhaust setup that I still have on it melted the plastic. It's not too noticeable, though, and I haven't noticed any more progression since I got it. I might get some extended tips made eventually, and I'm not talking about any of those ricey tip extenders. I mean having a shop custom cut and fit longer tips on there. I just need to get the flames out away from the car.

Mine just barely come past the cutouts, I'm kind of surprised I don't have some blacking going on, but so far the plastic has remained cool and clean, which I'm happy about!

Hahaha, you must have got your car back? I've put a ton of miles on these poor mufflers and they're just taking all the abuse, they've gotten a little bit quieter as of late in the lower RPM range, but they stay the same as I wind out. Shoot nice flames too

That was outside the car, sitting about 3 feet away directly behind the license plate.
