Question major smoking problems!

im having some smoking problems the mods are: walbro, 3" dp-3" exhaust (no cat). rtek 1.5v chip, bov, air filter. there are a few problems i had to address.

1: the water thermo sensor was broken off. I got a new one and replaced it.

will it still work if it is plugged in backwards? because the plug clips into it either way. and its really hard to tell which way is which! also it acts the same either way its plugged.

2: the oil was really low! i got a low buzzer sound, turned out it was super low! went to store put in 4.5 quarts of castrol 20w50 and a new oil filter.

now this car smoked a little (its old). but after driving on the freeway it ran like a champ. i drove it slow and careful on the freeway...hardly boosting.

i get off the freeway, and i am stopped at a light, i notice smoke bililowing out of the exhaust!....i thought it was just the normal smoke, but this is more than normal.

as soon as the light went green, i started driving and it went away....then the next light when i was idlling at a perfect 750rpm's....the smoke starts again. light goes green, i start going...it goes away! the next light i decided to keep it revved to 3k rpms and magically no smoke is coming out.

what could be the cause of this?

ive narrowed it down to a few things from reading around:

1. i put in too much oil (am checking that soon)

2. spilt oil from changing....but, even in that case it wouldnt. come out of the exhaust.

3. the omp linkage rod got stuck open. it is really close to the water thermo sensor wire, and it could have gotten stuck or lodged open.

things i did before it started smoking. changed oil, and flipped the water thermo plug around to see if it would run any different.

any help or insight would be great

thanks,
brando

edit update:

checked the car..didn't start it, because i dont want to smoke out the neighbors just yet.

their are no visible oil leaks under the car. the omp linkage seems to in the normal position....but if i lift it up, it goes down real slow...not sure if that is normal.

the car is low on gas, im not sure if that would affect anything...but it hasnt been changed since the oil change.

heh,
i put in 4.5 quarts when i was empty and i think i put too much. So i believe you put too much, unless you drained the oil first.

i filled it up with a full tank still smokes like hell....especially at idle.

i switched the thermo sensor plug to where it was before...still smokes.

the oil feed line on the turbo is kinda kinked a tad...but why would this happen suddenly after an oil change?

i need to get this resolved soon, gotta head to work tomorrow!

1) yes, the water thermo sensor should still work plugged in "backwards". It's nothing more than a temp sensitive negative coefficient thermister (or, a resister that changes its values with a temp change)
2) sounds like your oil control rings are on the fritz, nothing a rebuild can't solve...Also check your oil cooler lines for leakage...
3) I don't remember the OMP linkage going slow when released (haven't had it on the car for over a year now), maybe someone with it still on their car will chime in...
4) Low gas shouldn't be causing any oil-related problems....

Could be, but you'd be able to answer that question better than we could...

well....it is kinked, but it wasnt smoking like this before the oil change. now that the car is at the full mark its starting to smoke!

if it is the oil feed line...can i use a temp replacement....cut a section between where the two metal lines meet and replace it with a thick rubber hose.

If you've ruled out the OMP, the only thing you're left with are the oil control rings...You sure it's oil smoke?

How's this scenario: you practically ran it out of oil (did you ever figure out where it all went?), causing the rubber o-ring parts of the rotor oil control rings to tear themselves up on the e-shaft (one of 'em, at least), so that now they don't work as advertised, and you're burning all the blowby now...Not very pretty, I know, but that's all I can come up with...
