Main Underdrive Pulley Install FC
Trying to install unorthodox raceing main underdrive pulley on my 87 TII. I'm not sure if the stock belts can be used or how hard it is to get the stock pulley off. Are these generally used in conjunction with a second pulley to underdrive the alternator as well? I'd appreciate any adivse from people who know or have installed a comparable product.

yes you would probably want the dual alternator pulley as well. but most importantly a second belt on the waterpump.
as for instaling, you need a partner to hold the clutch in while you work. And you will need an impact gun to get the pulley off. Once it is off just slide the new one on and replace belts.

From what i've seen with an underdrive pulleys is chaos. The car ran hot, and his battery was constantly dying because the alternator was not spinning fast enough, his car came with the pulleys when he purchased it, he converted it back to stock pulleys and it stopped running hot and he never had a dead battery again. Be sure to use a good ratchet when removing your pulley though, it took me 4 ratchets before getting mine off, one of which literally exploded.

anybody have any tips as far as keeping the alternator from turning. It didn't matter for me on removal because I was switching over to a dual pulley setup so I just threw a monkey wrench on the pulley and yanked it off, but when we put the new pulley in the strap wrench wouldn't hold the pulley enough for us to torque it down, so we had to use the monkey wrench, anyone have better suggestions?
