Magnaflow CAT --- not bad.

There's not a lot of thread about Magnaflow CAT for this car, so I decided I should post my experience with it.

I got my car used. 91 S5. Had RB Full Race exhaust. I cant stand the smell. and my emission is due ... back in June. yea I left my car in my garage for more than 5 months lol

Time to start sourcing parts

Got some stock exhaust, pipes, bought some new gaskets, bolts, hangers, etc.

The secondary air injector was disconnected, and Mazda no longer sells the plastic tube, so I used a Coolant tube instead. Air pump works fine. surprised.

Looking at CAT ... well, I dont really want to pay 1700 bux for a new CAT cuz if I do, the CAT cost more than the car lol

so I went Autozone and bought a Mangaflow cat.

Just got the Main converter part cuz I dont really see the point of having a Pre-cat, wow that 5 minutes of cold start up emission ... and cost me around 70 bux only cuz I have Autozone rewards, 20 bux off

Put everything up --- new exhaust manifold gasket, stock manifold, a guttered Pre-cat tube, Mangaflow CAT, cat back exhaust ...

Did the Emission test today, first one was the result, second is the limit.

result was

HC 0.53 0.80
CO 2.1 15.0
NOx 0.09 2.0

I guess it wasnt so bad ? and I got couple years of warranty on this thing so if it goes bad. I can go back to Autozone and get another one.

not bad for 70 bux (originally its like 90)

Thank you for reading.

Nice . Did you notice any difference in performance after installing it? I figure I should start planning ahead, since I'm sure I'll have to face emissions testing someday as greenwashing continues to take over.

honestly, I dont notice any difference. at least not for regular daily driving.

I could be losing a few ponies with it, who knows. but at least now I can drive it around without giving me a headache.

Well, Compare to a straight out Racing Beat Full Exhaust then yes, its "much" more quiet. but I think it has a lot to do with the cat back exhaust (I got a stock one outa someone here)

the sound is still pretty deep though.
