Made a System (pics)

So my door speakers Had plenty of treble but my car needed a little bit of bass.

rather then having a huge box in my car or any box that just looks tacky and takes up space in the hatch, i decided to make my own.

did some measurements in the hatch and of the bucket area. and since I'm not much of a bass/system person i decided to just go with some cheap 10's and a Wal-Mart amp.

(as you can see the speakers can easily be lifted to continue to store things in the bins)

(i used Foam strips to seal it when the system is lay-ed down. it gives it the "box" affect as if it were a sealed box.

(i used one of the bins to hide the amp and all the wiring)

The System could sound better if i got a stronger amp and better speakers.

but for what i have it sounds great. it sounds almost like a Boss system that is in newer cars.

Pros:
1. Sounds great
2. Looks good
3. Light weight compared to a full box setup
4. Leaves more space compared to full box setup
5. Unique design

If there is any interest for this "box" i could make more and ship them. (without the speakers and amp)

All criticism is welcome as well as questions

As long as it sounds good to you, that's all that it matters!

I would've use a SAS Bazooka instead, but that my preference

i think the only bad thing about thos is the fact that when you have the subs down and in the storage bins your subs will not be properly sealed which will give you horrible sound. this would be a way better setup if somehow the subs were fully sealed rather than just resting down on the box openings. other than that good job. i kind of want to do something similar

well with the foam padding i put on it, it almost self seals itself. the weight of the speakers holds down on the foam so no air comes through.

in the first pic is doesn't even look like there sealed to the top, bad angle? If you like it then thats what matters, but if you want pointers.... I'd redo it all. Amp will overheat anyless its fancooled, being in a sealed area. Not sealing the top to the "box" will rattle bad. Of course I doubt that you are hitting hard enough to do that atm.

it just looks like that because of the foam it sits on if you look at the pictures of when i lift it up. but its actually sealed pretty well.

as for the amp its fan cooled.

and nothing rattles its actually very sturdy and doesn't even move when taking sharp turns.

I think it looks good. Beats having a stupid ghetto box in the hatch.

Ok, thats what i thought it was. Interesting, does look better then a shelf box. What else you running in there. You said you have plenty of treble, what about mids? Does your deck have a decent crossover?

They look pretty vulnerable to damage as they are just out there. Id protect the speakers with some kind of cover

Going to put covers on them? I would worry about something being put in the back, and then breaking the subs. Like, some kind of plastic protector?

Know what I mean?

I have a single sub in the same spot, well on the passenger side. Its an alpine R12. It doesn't sound to great... I'm considering replacing it with something that is designed to work with a very small volume sealed box. Because I made a box to fit down in there and I want to say it was like .75 cubic feet..

Those subs are probably DVC but that center output is probably both coils in parallel to be half the ohm load.
