LT1 Air pump How to
Hey guys, sorry i searched and couldnt find exactly what im looking for, most of the stuff is 3rd gen anyways, and i tried pm'ing CCarlisi but his inbox is full apparently.
Anyone have a link to a good write up on running the lt1 airpump? I have the ACV but only one hose is connected to it and that goes to my BPS and BOV

So, heres the way i did it. Not quite as technically sophisticated as other write ups, but mines a very temporary setup and will be ripped out the same day i pass inspection.
I lodged my airpump in the same place next to the charcoal canister. Ran the 5/8" hose to an adapter onto a 1/2" hose hooked up to the cat. For wiring I ran the positive and the ground inside and spliced into the wires for the cigarette lighter then removed the fuse. When i pull up to get it inspected i'll pop the fuse in, let them run the inspection then pull the fuse out, go home and rip the airpump and all wiring out.
Its not quite as fancy as other setups with relays and switches but im confident it will get the job down.
Flame suit on and please give me your thoughts.

Well, that didnt work. As soon as i ran the car the cigar fuse kept blowing so now its back to the drawing board. I was thinking just wire it straight to the battery connections and put a switch in the ground wire. I know its not the safest way to wire anything up, but it will be only temporary, what you guys think?

I believe the LT1 airpump uses 9V, so you will fry it out with 12v. Don't quote me on that, but this is what I read from a member here running one on his FD. Seems like everyone who has tried it besides him ends up ruining the pump if they wire it up to 12v for a long period....
Best way to be 100% sure, find a friend with a camaro, trans am, or vett with this style airpump and check the voltage. I would be interested in verifying if this is really true, since it should solve the burning the pump issue.
Maybe someone who has an account on a chevy forum can ask?

I wired it straight to the battery, but switched with a relay from inside the car. Just don't run it for more than 10 minutes at a time. The dyno/rolling test is only 5 minutes or so anyway so you should be OK. You probably only need it for when the cat is cold anyway.

Well I wired it up to the battery with a switch on the ground connection. It was sooo loud while they were doing the test I thought for sure they were gonna ask me why I had a vacumn in my engine bay. Everything passed except
the low speed HC failed by 40 points.

Cat is pretty much brand new. It's a bones from RP. I did new plugs and the wires look good. Did oil change. How would you reccommend to clean the injectors?

Take them off and bring them to a shop that does injector flowing & cleaning. If those are the original injectors and you have flooding problems (can't shut the car off when starting cold, or else it floods) they are dirty...
If the low speed failed, did you fully warm up the car before you took it in to make sure the cat was ready to go? Did you have the air-pump on the whole inspection? You can also try adding some ethanol, SOME (don't fill up the whole tank with it), it should help you pass emissions too....

It starts pretty good. If it sits for a day or two it struggles and needs deflooding so maybe I'll get the injectors cleaned but only being 40 points off I think some seafoam and some good heating up should do the trick.

Try adding a few bottles of "water or moister remover" into the gas tank. They are usually label "ISO-HEAT". They contain methanol or ethanol in it (forgot which one). An alternative if you can't find a e85 pump anywhere near you.... Seafoam might make it worse if it's still in the tank while testing (I know it makes the exhaust smoke up, though I have never tested if this has higher HC's or not), best bet is to fill up with alcohol...
Definitely sounds like your injectors are leaking fuel....

The ISO HEET is for your fuel tank to contain an alcohol mixture so your engine can burn it during emissions, not to clean your fuel system. You need enough in there to increase the alcohol percentage in the tank significantly (probably best to add a few (more like a lot) bottles in almost empty tank, enough to go to emissions testing), either that or an e85 station would be best. Let us know how it goes though....

That's what we've been telling you to do!!! : ) There is a limit to how much factory ECU's can handle without needed to go stand-alone, but you will be fine.
As long as you have some gasoline in the tank to mix with the alcohol you will be alright, try the gallon of denatured mixed with an almost empty tank!
Like I said, you can't just pour one little bottle in the tank and expect it to be a difference, it needs to be significant, hence the E85 pump....
Ohh and make sure your engine is warmed up before filling with alcohol or you might have a hard time starting...

Ok, my only dilemma with this is i just filled up today =/ and with the cost of gas these days theres no way im wasting all that gas so im gonna search a way to drain the fuel tank and save the gas for after the inspection.
