LSD's In FC's..

Hey all!
what sort of options did Fc's have when it came to LSD's in them?
like did all Turbo Second gens have LSD in them or were they optional?
because my friend is looking at buying a FC soon so is there a quick way to identify if it has an LSD or not.

other than doing a burnout and see if both wheels spin!

All TII's came with LSD -- the early (87-88) had conventional friction plate type LSD, and the late (89-91) had viscous type LSD. The 86-88 GXLs had LSD, the 88 GTU w/ hard susupension had LSD (according to Mazda, the 88 GTU w/ soft suspension did not have LSD), and the 89-90 "GTUs" had viscous type LSD and was the only 2nd gen RX7 to have a stock 4.300 ring and pinion ratio.

My guess would be he spun the car in the rain or something. LSD's allow you to get more power down to the rear-wheels, but they also make it easier to slide around corners, which in my opinion is a good thing.

Okay, everyone hold on before rushing to judgement! Yes, all US Turbo models had an LSD. However, our friend here is in Australia, so he might be looking at a Japanese domestic model. All Japanese FCs were turbos BUT they were broken down into trim lines like the US non-turbos. Some had LSDs while others did not. This is where the GT, GT-R, GT-X, GT-Limited, and other desigations came from. The US-spec "Turbo II" was equivalent only to the higher-end Japanese turbo models, but you can't compare them directly. I don't have the knowledge to tell you which had which, so unless someone steps forward, you'll have to inspect the car to determin what it has. So, jack up the rear end, release the parking brake and turn one wheel. If the opposite wheel turns in the opposite direction then it's an open diff. If the other wheel turns the same way or doesn't turn at all, it's an LSD. Good luck.
