LSD Rebuild kit/writeup...
Anyone know where I can find a LSD rebuild kit for my gxl? I have been drifting the **** of my car, ever since I took the trip to Japan and saw a drift comp. and watched the drift bible... I have been practicing about everyday now, but the car doesnt spin as easy, so I think its time for the rebuild... any help appreciated--thanks...
I have not seen a Rebuild kit for theLSD at all, but it is pretty easy to find all the discs and springs that you would need. As far as a write up, I am pretty sure the FSM has a section on rebuilding the rear end. Part costs for the rear end add up, you dont want it burning out prematurely becuase you just slapped the thing together and not spec'd out things
Right... will check it out more... Also, does the lsd off an miata fit? if so, which kind of miata... I just wanna find a backup and there are alot of miatas in the junkyards around me, but the rx7s are stripped to the bone w/i the first day of arrival, making it hard to get core parts...
You know unless you put that LSD in there that the GXL doesn't come factory stock with it in. But the original owner could have ordered an LSD put in as an option maybe? ANYWAY, I have a GXL and have put in my own LSD pumpkin and let me tell you, it's worth it to just buy another used LSD off someone here or around your town or to just buy a whole brand new one from a store. I have never rebuilt mine but to take out the old open differential pumpkin and put in the limited slip clutch type was very tedious work. And if I had to rebuild the whole thing from scratch too to all the spec's it would officially be not worth it. Plus I think the replacement parts are pretty expensive, and it would save you on time and money to just buy a whole new LSD.
All in all, though, if you still wanted to rebuild the thing it would take roughly one and a half FULL days for two men to do the work if you had all the parts and tools necessary. Plus your neck will hurt soo bad from staying under the car so long. If you have any questions just PM me. Personal note- get the stupid backlash and other specifications right before you put it back in even if you have to take it to a professional. IT'S WORTH IT!!

I dont know how it got in there, but I was given the gxl w/ a blown engine and rebuilt myself... it already had LSD... I swapped a diff. before, (on a 1st gen. and twice on my starlet) I ended up welding the diff. on my starlet and I am starting to think about doing the same to my fc.
S5 GXL does not have an LSD factory
S4 GXL DOES have a clutch type LSD factory
Spread the word brotha - spread the correct word ;-)
