LSD pro/con?

Does anybody with experience know the actual advantages and disadvantages of a limited slip differential (sp?) on the FC?

cornering control is almost like night and day. i went from an S5 open diff to a TII LSD and it was amazing. powering threw turns is more fun and you have much more traction/ slash control. I can only imagine what it would feel like with a nice high-end aftermarket diff.
now, that is from a street driving standpoint, if you are roadracing or autocrossing then I wouldn't even roll onto the track without a LSD rear end, it would even be worth the run.

Hope that helps,
good luck, have fun

The only drawback to a LSD is when you loose traction on both rear wheels (such as in/on black ice or sand/dirt). If both wheels break loose in such situations, the rear end tends to slide much easier.

Other than that, an LSD will generally only help.

Had a hard time understand your post, so let me answer what I think you are asking...

A LSD (Limited Slip Differential) "senses" one rear wheel spinning faster than the other. If it sees what it considers too much of a difference it locks (or partially locks) both axles together, forcing the two to spin at a simular speed.

Unless you have traction problems (from say worn out shocks, broken or damaged bushings or other suspension parts or poor weather conditions) an LSD should only help handling.

which means that someone welded the spider gears together so both wheels spin at the same time, all the time. sucks to turn, doesn't it?

what douche-bag that wasnt on a budget drag-race build up would lock the diff on a 7. now i know an open diff sucks but a locked diff is ten times worse. people!

oh it is haha no power steering, no a/c, no heat, no radio, Can't take a sharp or fast without wheel hop. My car is pretty much just a track car.

yeah, it's real simple
lsd = pro
open = con

now if you get into the pro/con's of the different types of lsd's... thats a whole 'nother world

torsen all the way. cant beat it unless you are laying down like over 400 at the wheels, even then it would still work well in certain aplications.

Locked means the differential has been welded or locked in such a position that both wheels MUST turn at the same speed in ANY situation.

this is ONLY good for a streight line run! As during turns, the inside wheel needs to turn slower then the outside wheel, a locked diff wont allow this to happen!

try telling my step father that. He puts his jeep (puke) in part time-4wd as if it were full time-4wd... when there are patches of snow on the ground.
