LSD direct fitment?
I have a 86 NA Base model, 4 lug. I am looking to purchase a LSD from a GXL. Would this LSD be a direct fitment? (ie. would the pumpkin drop directly into the place of my old one?) Or would I need to purchase the half shafts and axles along with it. If so, are there any other parts I would need in order to be able to swap in the LSD?
I belive that it will fit in fine as long as its out of another s4. The s5's had different shafts along with a viscous lsd rather then a clutch lsd.
Also you may want to consider the lsd out of a miata 93+ i belive. There is a write up in the arcive about it. Im planing on doing this in the future.

if you swap the non turbo whole diff assembly (pumpkin as you call it) with another non turbo diff assembly it bolts in just fine regardless of year or model or LSD, and no need to swap half shafts/axles.
braker doesn't know what he is talking about as far as the different half shafts or viscous LSD having any effect on the swap. The only reason they would be different is if you went from a non turbo to turbo swap of the diff assembly.
