Lsd
Hey just wondering if anyone has any links to some pics of LSDs. My car is kinda weird when it comes to having or not having what it should. Would just like some images of what a rx7 looks like with and without an LSD, obviously from underneath. thanks in advance.

simple way, jack up the rear on both sides, spin one wheel, if the other spins in the other direction, no lsd. if its hard/not moving then its lsd.(should be it)

from just lookin g under the car the lsd tranny has a much longer snout i guess you could say it also has a much wider pinion flange here a pic of the lsd outta the car, and if your lucky and its a lsd and no one else removed it there is a tag on the fill plug i belive

^Umm, no. There's no external difference besides the tag, which may have come off by now, and you can easily get both tires to light up with an open diff, I've done it many times before.

how can there not be a external diffrence, that would mean you could bolt a lsd into a n/a drive train...which you cant do that would also mean that the driveshaft form a t2 and a n/a are the same length, again they arent also the bolt pattern on the pinion flange is much diffrent hence a extreal diffrence.. let alone the much larger ring and pinion gears hence a much larger rear end

I've still got the little tag on mine, prolly means it needs a fluid change.
Yeah, just jack up the car, grab a wheel and turn it forward. If the other wheel turns the same way, you have yourself an LSD.

Tor-sen son, torque sensing LSD. The wheel you're not spinning wont move until the right amount of pressure is put on it. There is also a very slim chance you have a really loose vicious unit. They require a few turns before the other wheel kicks in.

Did my 2nd Gen RX-7 come with a Limited Slip Differential?
Only the following USA model 2nd gen RX-7s had a LSD from the factory:
86-88 GXL
87-91 T2
88 GTU
89-90 GTUs (however not the 89-90 GTU)
copied from FAQ's

Incorrect.
edit: mot8*&*#& f*&#*ing forum won't let me upload the pics!! I ahve a comparison shot of a TII and N/A diff here. More ribs onthe TII, and the third member is wider on the TII.

Well not sure if you really got this or not but put a jack under diff. and jack it up make sure you have secured your car from running down the drive way by putting bricks on the front wheels. make sure the E brake isn't on and go to either side of the car and hand turn the wheel.
if you turn the wheel clock wise the and the other wheel goes counter clock wise it is a open diff.
but if the wheels turn in the same direction as you are turning it it does have a lsd. simple as that
remember safety is always a good thing to practice. haha

I have 3 diffs, one is LSD and the other 2 are open. There is visually no difference between the 3 of them (1 from an S5 vert, the other 2 from S4 n/a's).

There is a difference between a TII diff and an N/A Diff. That was not the question and no one has said otherwise.
In addition to the tag, I believe the LSD units will have the fill plug painted yellow.
Also, if you raise the car and spin the wheel and the other wheel goes nowhere then you have a Clutch LSD that is worn out. That is what mine does and the LSD is toast. Being replaced soon by a TII drivetrain.

Now I'm confused. I have a '89 GTU so I didn't even check... but after doing a few burn outs today, although just small tire marks were made, both tires were spinning...?!
