How do you know if you have an LSD? I have an 88 Vert, manual. Would this have an LD? How can I find out?

Thanks
Jesse

yes it does bacek, if you do a burn out and you only have 1 tire mark then you are pegleging, if you have lsd then you will have 2 marks.

Yes, i just bought one and adding it to my 88 SE.

wasnt giving false info against the forum rules????

just because there are tire marks or not that is not the most accurate way to tell if have you lsd or not. Its been said by all the knowledgeable pro's on this forum.

o yah ... do a search ... there are countless threads with all this info.

two burn outs means nothing about having a LSD, but rather that you have poor traction on both wheels.

If 2 burn outs means a LSD; then 90% of the cars I have owned had LSDs.

You shouldn't post wrong info

Jack up the rear of the car, spin one rear wheel and if the other spins simontaniously with it then there is an lsd.

but dont forget it will spin in the opposite direction of the one you are spinning. burnout test does seem to be simi accurate tho if you dont feel like jacking up the rear of the car. if both spin but one goes allot longet than the other or your car doesnt get a lil sideway then you probably have a open diff. not nessicarily tho.

my 88 se will leave 2 tire marks with no lsd. Probably the easiest way to test would be to stop with one wheel on pavement and one on grass/dirt, and see if it leaves a mark on the pavement when burning out. If so.. you have LSD

lol

the right tire has the most torque put on it so it is the first to slip, when making slight left hand turns and enough weight is put on the right tire or on a crowned road both tires can slip giving the effect of a LSD(i like to drift my truck on wet days ).

jacking the car and/or looking for a simple tag on the differential is the best and easiest way IMO.

Yep, thats how I found out. The other ways weren't for sure because my LSD is very worn out. I plan on rebuildng it before my engine goes back in.

if anyone cares to know why, if you look from the front of the car back, envision the e-shaft turning clockwise through the driveshaft, that puts force down on the driver's rear tire while lifting up on the passenger side one, with wieght distributed more on the passenger side tire the turning force is equalled out turning both tires evenly.

todays lesson was brought to you by the letter "Y", as in why the hell did i bother to type that out.
