Lower intake modification?

Thought I'd try posting here since it has to do with a Turbo II. I recently got ahold of a Turbo II to swap into my FB and am currently going through it. Its a fresh rebuild pulled out of a car (from what I was told) but none of the accessories, intake/exhaust manifold, or turbo were securely attached. After taking these off to inspect them I noticed that what I believe to be a coolant passage for the lower intake to be blocked off and that the other has a chalky like substance in it. Where they would connect to the block it appears to be in good shape and has coolant remnants in it like you would expect inside the block. Is the blocked off passage in the lower intake manifold a common mod? Do I need to replace the lower intake?

There are two coolant passageways coming out of the rotor housings on the T2 engines. IIRC The front passageway basically goes to nothing. The LIM covers it. The other passageway is for the turbo coolant feed, and that is the rear one. Which one of those is blocked off?

IMPORTANT: both passageways have o rings to seal them to the LIM. You can buy these o rings from Mazdatrix or from the dealer. Since one of yours is blocked off it doesn't matter much as long as it's properly sealed. But the other one will need the o ring. The chalky substance is just evaporated coolant. Clean the o ring groove VERY thoroughly. Get all that crap out with a pick or the o ring will not seat and you will have a leak.

Awesome, I think this is exactly what I wanted to hear. I believe it is the front one that is blocked off, I'll have to go look at it. I was concerned since it looked like it was blocked off after the fact. Additionally, is there any sort of gasket "kit" that would give me all the necessary gaskets and o-rings like the ones you were talking about for the entire top-end of the motor? i.e. the upper/lower intake, front plate, etc.

Call Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda in northern VA: (703) 490-8170 . He is a parts manager and forum vendor here, and gives good discounts. Ask for Mazda parts and then ask for Ray Crowe. He has an FC and FD so he knows about mods etc. Just tell him about your swap and he'll know the parts you need off the top of his head.
