Low oil pressure, thermo pellet?

Recently picked up another fc. Its a 91 vert n.a 95k bone stock besides RB exhaust.

Engine runs good but my oil pressure is only reaching I'd say 40psi Max while driving. I do not like this since both my other fc's go over 60psi while driving. At idle it shows 28 psi I'd say so I don't think its a front cover o ring problem.
I have never heard of a oil pressure regulator failure so I'm led to believe the thermo pellet has failed.

I have a brand new Atkins bypass pellet or whatever that I never used. I want to fix this asap but would like someone to confirm that is indeed the part that has failed before I start taking it apart.

Also I need the air pump for the aux ports to function on a S5 right? Thanks for any help ahead of time.

yes you need the airpump to operate the aux. ports on a s5, s4's operate them via backpressure from the exhaust.

Check your pressure with a mechanical gauge to confirm the "low" pressure.
Could be the sending unit is getting old.

crappy cluster gauges are more common than a low oil pressure engine

I have a oil filter adapter plate and gauge i just put into one of my other cars. I guess I'll have to switch it over.

Edit. Actually i'll just switch the sending units first from my other S5 then go from there.

Say im really only getting 40-45psi while driving. Is that safe enough to still drive it. I thought i heard you should have 10psi for every 1000 rpm. Not like im going to go racing with it. Just want to keep driving it while i narrow down the problem.
