Low oil pressure?

Just picked up a 89 t2 and noticed that the oil pressure on the hwy hangs around 30psi. Haven't been in the scene in a few years just curious what could cause this issue. I will check the sending unit tomorrow but if it is gd that's too low as I recall. No problems from car.

I would check common areas for oil leaks that could drop the oil pressure. The first thing I would do is replace the oil filter pedestal O - rings under the oil filter.

Will look into it. Just went out and sprayed carb cleaner on the sender and clip. Coated in oil. 30 psi warm at idle. I don't know why I bought another rx7?! lol I know the oil cooler lines are leaking a lil. Not bad but they are leaking. Ordered a new set of mazdatrix lines. Car was tuned at rotary performance before I bought it 2 months ago.

If the sender was coated in oil that's where I would start looking for leaks...

The sender is under the oil filter pedestal so it would make sense it's leaking onto the sender unit.

If the sender unit were leaking wouldn't everything underneath it be coated in oil?

For kinda reference or comparison, I hooked up an AEM oil pressure gauge and my pressure is typically around 70 psi; factory cluster gauge indicates around 40 psi. I thought 70 psi seemed high and checked the FSM. Going by memory the FSM indicated something like 68-73 psi is typical for a NA (I have a 90 convertible).

HAvent checked it out just yet. I cleaned it and plugged it back in seems to be more responsive. As I do things I begin to remember the in's and out's of the car. Just taking me a bit to get back up to speed...

Well I notice that while the car is warming up the pressure is a solid 40-60 and fluctuates with any throtlle input. Its when driving down the hwy it resorts back to showing 30 psi-40 psi. Really weird. I think the diaphram on the Oil sender is shot.

You guys do realize that if he really didn't have any oil pressure, his engine would be clattering right?
