LOW GAS light not working
How about this...
When you KEY ON - BEFORE you crank the engine over - does all those warning lights light up?
If the LOW GAS light doesn't, then the light bulb is dead - replace.
If the light goes on from this self-test, then the sensor in the gas tank is dead.
Replace.

If the light works (as ted outlined above) and the light is not coming on when you are down to 1.5 to 2 gallons of gas, then the sensor may be bad.
But if you are not getting it down that low, then it won't come on

mine comes and goes. i ran out of gas twice because of it. it doesnt help that my fuel gauge is unreliable. just fill your tank up when you get down to 1/4. easy self fix.

I had my fuel pump out of my car to change the screen and try to fix the sensor at the same time. I tried to clean it with no luck. My plan is to replace it with someother sort of sensor since the sensor itself is not available and it is not worth relacing the entire pump for the stupid "I forgot to check my gas gauge" light.
On my 87 GXL the light did not work when I got it. So when I took the fuel pump assembly out to replace the broken fuel level sending unit, I used "CONTACT CLEANER" on it. There are several holes in the top and bottom of the part. I sprayed it through both ends several times and let it dry. Once it was all back together, it worked again!

I believe I was using Berrymans B-12 carb cleaner spray when I tried to clean my sender.
Does anybody know what type of sensor it is? floating ball switch or floating magnet? I couldn't tell if there was anything moving inside.
