Low Boost?

Hey guys, I am new to the forum, and have a 1991 Turbo, with cats removed, and a street port.

I recently had the engine rebuilt, and before the engine went out, it would not boost, at all. This same problem came back after the rebuild, so we decided to drop the cats out of the system, because we found out one of the cats was clogged. After doing that, we still only came up with about 3 or 4 PSI of boost. Anyone have any ideas as to why the boost is still so low?

either a wastegate issue or a leak in the system somewhere, if you can't find any leaks in the intake then your wastegate may not be closing fully. is it a stock or hybrid turbo? is the wastegate modified or stock?

Stock turbo stock wastegate. Anyway to check the stock wastegate and to check for leaks?

only by splitting it open, my assumption was for a modified wastegate so i doubt that is your problem, has to be a leak in the intake somewhere or a restriction in the intake or exhaust.

are there any places in the intake where it is likely to leak?

check all your vacuum lines to be sure none popped off, if the idle is still relatively stable then it may be loose clamps on one of the intercooler hoses so i would start by checking those out.

if you have an aftermarket blow off valve be sure it is tightened, if it is set too loose it may be blowing off when it shouldn't.

well, just took a look at it, and had a cracked hose going from intake to the BOV, so i'll be replacing that tomorrow and see if that was the problem.
