Loud exhaust remedy?

I love my exhaust, but my passengers tend to complain about how loud it is. I was looking up different kinds of sound reduction materials and narrowed it down between Dynamat(really damn expensive) or http://www.secondskinaudio.com/noise...tegory=72#tab4

I figured 9 sq.ft would be plenty to do my trunk and maybe a little more. Does anyone have any other ideas or possibly an even cheaper alternative?

why not just get a decent exhaust system? There's no reason to be loud unless you are over 400whp.

What I would do:

# 1. I wouldn't give them a ride if they are complaining. You are descent enough to let them bum a ride you don't need complaints.

#2. For the pretty ladies that want a ride. provide them with ear plugs.

If It's too loud you're too old!!

First, what kind of exhaust system do you have and are you N/A or turbo? That's so we have an understanding of what options you have. Wrapping your exhaust with a heat wrap will help reduce some noise. If you have some fabrication skills you could always weld another muffler in place.

My N/A was beyond loud straight piped to a CorkSport power series. The CS muffler goes from 2.5" after the cat to 80mm (approx. 3.149"). I welded a cheap Magnaflow XL 3 muffler after the RB header in place of the straight pipe and while the muffler did help reduce noise, it was still beyond comfortable. I then installed the tailpipe silencer onto the CS muffler and finally got "comfortable" noise levels where I could finally talk to the passenger while cruising but the noise is no where close to stock levels. I still plan to install a third muffler after the XL 3. The exhaust is still pretty loud and I set off car alarms occasionally but my whole main point is that rotaries are very loud and if you really want to be quiet, going OEM (or similar) would be best.

My two cents

Hiider is right a Rotary is loud by nature especially uncorked I have a RB Header A 24 inch Toyota Truck Resonator and a 3inch 5Zigan exhaust no cat. and people tell me leaving from school my car is louder 1/2 a mile away at WOT Then it is from 100 feet in front of them. It is what it is cause as much as they wanna try to crack jokes about blown water seals and oil ring smoke. There refuse to try to run it with the loud smokey fire spittin N/A Vert. As long as your car is used for the purpose that your using it for **** what they got to say about it. Because soon as I swap in my Turbo engine, What else can they talk bad about besides my gas mileage. There scared even try to race now and my car is slow so when its done what will it be then look at you car like that! A Work in progress!!!

Remove passenger seat. Enjoy weight reduction. Save ears from nagging.

You can try dynamat.

If you really want it to be a nice sound, then save up for a good exhaust like Racing Beat, or Borla.

put a turbo on your motor...it will help with the noise. if you are already turbo, get a good quality exhaust.

this stuff works.
i've used it.
not as thick and effective as dynamat but considering the cost you could put many layers down before ever approaching the cost of dynamat.

Does it smell during the summer? I heard it bakes in and gives off bad fumes. I think the car has a factory layer of tar, did you remove that?

I have a racing beat header to bones high flow cat to a racing beat cat back and its fairly loud. it purrs from behind but on the sides it has an obnoxious ting and is way louder...It is noticeable when the window is down, but if they are up you just hear the exhaust from the hatch area.

My advice is if you wanna keep the same exhaust is run some sound deadening. You can get roll on stuff for cheap
Link to the sound deadening:
http://www.raamaudio.com/index.php?o...emart&Itemid=3
RaaMaudio makes some great stuff.

However if you'd rather have a better dd setup, get yourself a custom exhaust made, put in a few resonators, and a big muffler

Azer 99spec and t-66 are closest to the answer to me. The sound deadening stuff is adding weight, but normally with out cars I thought it was about removing weight !!! Basically the only cure for loud exhaust is a new exhaust set up. Are you tryin to cure the loud exhaust so you don't get hassled by John Laws or you doin it cause People think your car is to loud. If you put that Stuff in your car it's only goin to solve for the inside of the cabin not the outside. Think about it, What are you using your car for whats the purpose for it, whats the future goal for it... Build it accordingly, do it a **** what others think cause it's your car your the one thats got to live with it they don't...

if it's loud to where multiple people complain about it then it's probably far too loud on the outside of the car..

i was never talkin about outside of the car only in the cabin. i know people say "u think they wanna hear that noise" but i say i don't care cause people think i wanna wait 40 mins for the to turn left or hear their systems. everyone does something to **** other people off in this world. a loud exhaust is over in a few sec.

I went with HKS Hi-power silent exhaust and I added a Vibrant Performance Ultra Quiet Resonator 3" where the cat used to be. Puurrrrfect.

Most loud rotaries sound like absolute crap. Very few sound good. Just get a real muffler on it and not some straight through 6" tinny sounding fart can. Don't add tons of weight with Dynamat on the very slim hopes that it will quiet it down by 2 db in the car. You'll just end up with a heavier loud car.

If it's too loud, you've finally grown up.

Racing Beat presilencer is awesome! It's quite 700 and 3.5K and when you're at 4k+ it's loud!
