You mean a pre-silencer? I thought my exhaust was loud with the pre-silencer, but its not loud enoughe to set off a car alarm.

So yes, if you don't have a pre-silencer, get one.

He means the silencer that you insert into the canistor. I was wondering about this as well, since Ill be driving my car roughly 2000 miles to NJ in November.

I don't recommend using the CS silencer. I've lost two so far.

The first came loose and popped out in my neighborhood. I stopped, picked it up, and reattached it with some new hardware... this time using a longer bolt and two nuts, the second nut to lock the first in place. I was driving around on a work trip in Florida, it starts pouring rain, and it blew out again. I never found it.

I broke down and ordered another, since I was running a header, midpipe, and CS catback... loud enough to make your ears bleed even with the silencer. I had it shipped down to Florida and popped it in. About a thousand miles and a couple weeks later, it blew out on the highway. This time, I had it on nice and tight.... so tight, the area around the bolt cracked and was still attached to the muffler while the main portion of the silencer blew out. I recovered the silencer about a week later from the side of the highway and still need to hammer it back into shape and drill a new hole.

Once the second silencer is back in shape, I'm going to take it to a welding shop for reinforcement around the new hole, and will probably lock-tite it in (with removeable lock-tite.)

Be forwarned.

yeah I have the thunder fab DP/MP to a corksport and I bought the silencer. Yeah way to loud for highway driving without one with the top down. I have not lost it yet but I will add another locking nut now.

I wish my exhaust was loud...its so damn quiet. Currently Im running 3" downpipe, bonez high flow cat, 3" whatever you call it pipe, then onto the greddy catback. Think removing the cat will make it much louder? Right now you barely hear the engine..its all turbo sounds.

The silencers work well if you've got some form of resinator/presilencer. Otherwise they don't work very well. I love setting off car alarms, it always impresses the passangers.

Try buying a better quality exhaust system. Racinbeat will get that **** under control.

Is this sideways13b on IM? If so, I don't see how your car could be that loud, I think it is all in your head. I have a 90 NA and it has a stock manifold, custom "down pipe" in place of precats, gutted main cat and CS cat back. I set off this one car alarm at around 1800 RPM in first if I drive past them while pulling out of my appartment parking lot, but it is a riced out NEON and he just has it adjusted WAY TOO sensitive. In town along side parallel parking I will set a few offBut only if I'm accelerating. Cruising RPM's shouldn't be all that loud.

Now sure when I first got it I thought it was way too loud, but after a week or two it starts to sound more reasonable, I hardly notice it now, except when at WOT or near a Jersey wall or under a bridge or in a tunnel or when shooting flames like a mad man

I will agree that on long drives it becomes a bit of a drone in the background, but the screw in silencer should cut that pretty well, just don't get on it too hard with it in there, I guess it could blow out like Kai's did. And get a better stereo to cover it up too.
