Loud beeping - power steering went out?
Hi guys - i'm just curious if this has ever happened to anyone and if i'm wrong about what i think it is. I was dropping off my boyfriend, saying goodbye and whatnot (car was idling for a good 6 minutes), i go to turn my wheel to drive away and it feels like my power steering is gone and this really loud continous beeping starts sounding from underneeth my steering wheel (or in that vicinity). We pop the hood and check the power steering fluid and its FULL. He tops it off and still, no power steering. So, we decide that i'm just going to have to drive home like that. I get home and i sit outside my house for about 5 minutes to see if the beeping will start again and it doesnt.
Am i right to say that this was just a false alarm for my power steering fluid or is there something i'm over looking?
Thanks.

your all retarded.. Jones was right.. why dont you read the FAQ i guess if you dont know much of whats going on in the world you would think that "noobs" was the new phrase for "newbie"... "nub" is the new hotness lol
Check the FAQ listen to the beeps your car is making write them down. Long short and whatnot.
Theres ways around it.. if you decide you dont wanna fix it.. you can (while driving) just turn the car off for a second (just a flick of the key and your car wont actuly turn off but it will give you a few seconds of peace from the beeping) or you can remove your power steering computer (if your S4)
Have you checked the connection from the PS pump yet? (if i remember correctly theres a plug that connects to the PS pump)
also.. have you tried searching... theres a million and 1 threads about beeping infact i think even I started one a few years back.

Alright, I see some clarification is needed here...
5 beeps in between pauses means the p/s computer isn't getting a proper signal from the steering wheel sensor. The p/s computer will also beep other codes depending on the problem, including one continuous. Read the Body Electrical section of the FSM if you have an S4 (page 83) (my S5 isn't here at work). See my sig. for FSM links.

Okay to clear things up, it was like this...
beep (coupleofsecondshere), beep (coupleofsecondshere), beep (coupleofsecondshere), beep (coupleofsecondshere), beep (coupleofsecondshere), beep (coupleofsecondshere)....... for a good 3 minutesor so until i turned my car off and back on. then it started up again as i went to drive away cause quite clearly there was no power steering while i was parked. Anyway, i havent been out and abou today but i'll be sure to have my camera with me so that i get the actual sound. Thanks for all of your advice.

I keep hearing a beep beep beep
Probably the power steering computer telling you there is a problem with the system. The number of beeps before pausing will indicate the problem.
1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:
In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the buzzer sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.
2-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of engine speed signal:
The buzzer sounds twice and repeats when the vehicle speed signal is missing input and/or no engine speed signal is found (short circuit, broken wire, etc.)
3-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of stepping motor signal:
The buzzer sounds when there are broken wires or short circuits in coils or harnesses.
4-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of the power steering microcomputer:
The buzzer sounds 4 and repeats when there are circuit troubles other than with the micro computer.
5-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of steering sensor signal: Steering sensor is mis-aligned or failed or steering wheel has been improperly installed.
pretty easy to find if you ask me..
Good luck with the repair!

fc3schick87 - read my post again. I mention the computer outputs other codes too. I only mentioned the 5 beep pause 5 beep as an example of one of them.
Click on the link (see my sig.), download the s4 FSM, Body electrical section, go to page 86, and get the info right there if you have any doubts.
Reatrdedspleen above shows the problem is the P/S CPU isn't getting a speed sensor signal (BTW, is your speedo working fine?). Maybe something in the wiring?
