Question Lots of Rust Deposits in My Coolant :(

I was putting a new (used.. new to the car) radiator on my 86 today because the old one was pretty messed up. I had been running some "Super Flush" stuff from schucks to clean out the system a little before I put the new radiator in. When i drained it, there was lots of rust and mineral deposits in the coolant. The hoses were permanently coated in this stuff. I could wipe large amounts off the inside of the hoses with my finger, it felt like sand. I thought great, the cars been running on 50% Water /25% Coolant /25% Sand. I'll be taking it to a shop to have it professionally flushed once i rig my s4 shroud on the s5 radiator.

the question is there any chance that this stuff just formed from tap water being used and not from massive corrosion of my housings? and does anybody think i could just poor some CLR in there to fix it without paying somebody?

oh and there are two places for about a 1/4" hose to go on at the bottom of the 91 radiator which aren't on my 86 or 89, anybody know what they are for?

Use the regular green stuff in a 50-50 to a 75-25 ratio of water to collant. Distilled water is basically pure water that doesn't have all the junk that tap water usually does. You don't need or want the crap in your cooling system.

Tap water is generally very high in phospates and silicates, both of which are bad for engines (and salt water aquariums) and can cause problems when heated.

A good cheap coolant to use is Zerex 50/50 premix, its already mixed proplerly with demineralized water and is usually only $3.99 per bottle.

If you want to get really good coolant I would recomend Evans npg+ coolant which you run a 100% mixture. only $24.99 a gallon. excelent stuff though.

To use either of those, you need to remove and flush any and all of the old coolant first. You can not mix types even the least bit or you will end up with sludging issues.

Again I have to ask? Why bother with Aqueous based coolant at all. My Engine Builder recommends Evans NPG+. Which is what I use

Icemark, Zerex 50/50 mix is regular green coolant no flushing needed, it just saves you the step of buying distilled water at the grocery store.

I don't know the capacity of the K2RD rad.

As far as flushing the NPG+, it shouldn't need it for a long time. read there tech notes on
