lost oil psi, but didn't loose any oil!?

I took my 89 auto vert for a drive short yesterday, and on my return trip i was loosing oil pressure. I fell to about 40-45 psi or so, and it seemed like it didn't change with idle to high rpm like it should, I don't think it even gets that low at idle. Even for the engine being in need of a rebuild soon and running a lill weak it still ran the same as id did the last time i had it out.

well I scooted home and parked it. It was dark so I couldn't really see anything but I thought I could smell something. I went out and looked around this morning and couldn't find any evidence of leaking, the oil lever was good, 3/4 on the hatch lines.

Now I haven't tried to run it since last night, but my main thought now is oil pressure sending unit? I replaced it about 6 months ago with a napa one and it worked fine ever since. The problem with the old one was that is read really high all the time, so my thought was maybe this one is backwards??

I know i need to break down and rebuild it but i really only need it to last another month or so before i go to the Coast Guard. I really ever drive it, maybe once every 1-2 weeks, And that's usually only 20-30 Miles. I'm gonna put it in storage till I get a chance/money to rebuild it. I was lower on the list of restorations but maybe i should bump it up a lill.

Thanks much
Tad Murphy

Your NAPA sending unit; was it an actual Mazda unit or just something generic? If it's generic it's unlikely it reads correctly.

With any oil pressure issue, you need to verify with another gauge before you assume something is actually wrong.

It was a Mazda one for my car group specifically. I called some one a lill wile ago, I am going to take it tomorrow to have some one check it with another gauge. Its only 20 miles away but hopefully I don't find its something else besides the gauge on the way lol. She has been good to me so far hope fully she doesn't crap out tomorrow.

Thanks
