Lost all drive.

Ok I'm leavin cache creek on the way to reno. I get about 7 miles down the road, realize i'm going the wrong way. When I go to turn around I hear this snap, and I have no drive in any gear. It's like every gear is neutral. And it makes some really bad noises if i press on the gas. About a week before this happened, when i pressed on the gas the hole car would start to shake, so I wasn't really surprised. ANyway I had it towed to a tran shop. Does anyone have any idea what might have snapped and what it would cost to fix. I guess I'll find out on monday anyway.

so you could get it in gear? but it was like neutral? if so was your driveshaft busted? if thats not busted then it might be something in your diff thats fucked up... and even in drive its spinning the driveshaft but wont spin the wheels... i dont know how common it is to bust a ring and pinion or a rear axle in these cars but it is possible

Yeah, its either the ring/pinion or something in the diff, drive shaft, or it could be in tranny. Never heard of a tranny shaft breaking but anything is possible. I'm assuming its a manual transmission. I had a similar problem with my old auto tranny. The tranny pump gear was cracked in half, the input shaft was gouged and discolored, and I found various gouged and cracked bearings as well as loose nut in the transmission center section. I don't think it was from the tranny, but I'm not sure.

Perhaps somehow you've busted your mainshaft in your tranny. I had a somewhat simular problem except for it was only my 1st gear, it blew apart and was flying around the tranny making a terrible noise but I got it home by starting from 2nd gear.
