lost!!!

Ok, heres the deal...I have a 88 GXL. When i got it, the engine was carbine locked but i got it free. It still wont run. Compression is fine, checked all vac lines, new fuel, new fuel filter, new air filter, new plugs...the works. I think its th AFM but, I built a diagnostic reader and tested it with the ECU. There were no error codes that came up. It will run for about 30 sec at a rough idle then kills. Any ideas?

check the air tube from the air box to the engine. Might be a bad seal, might have to tighten

Check the AFM connector to make sure it is connected. Make sure all the hoses are connected to the intake pipe and check for air leaks, especially between the AFM and the intake manifold.

There are no error codes when i start it up. I built a diagnostic tester so when I turn the ignition on with the tester hooked up, the two lights turn on then off then if there is an error, the lights will fire out the code. The ECU isnt detecting anything wrong so i dont know what it could be. I checked all the hoses and stuff and its all fine. The AFM is connected too.

Make sure your lights are wired right. The ECU will turn them both on for a couple seconds when you first turn the key. (at least this is what my 86 GXL does)

How rough? Like, does it shake the car a good bit? It vaguely sounds like one of your seals isn't making compression all the time, and it's running on one rotor. I have 2 7's that run on one rotor. One only does it 1/10th of the time cold, and runs fine the rest of the time, and always when it's warm. This one will occasionally even cut out to one while I'm driving. The other will run on 2 rotors over 2500 RPM but not below.

Just my .02

The lights are hooked up right, they come on for a couple seconds when i turn the key. Plus when i first tested it, i forgot to connect the AFM so it read that code . I ran a compression test on both rotor housings and they checked out. So i dont know what i should do. Im gonna test the fuel pump later this week. Is it posible that i need a new air flow meter even if i didnt get an error code for it?
