Loose alternator belt...
Can a loose alternator belt cause the pulley (on the alternator) to heat up to a very high temperature and cause the belt to snap?
I was told my alternator was done for but i noticed the belt was really loose so i thought it have something to do with that.

the belt will break from the friction of the metal pulley scrubbing against the rubber belt. I don't think that the friction from the belt against the pulley will cause damage to the internal components of the alternator.

Well my pulley was heating up really bad and i was told the alternator needed to be replaced (bad bearings was the verdict), but the belts were replaced by these guys who didn't properly tighten the alternator belt... so i figured that's why the pulley was heating up.
as for the bearings, I'm not quite sure how to tell whether they're good or bad, but i have an alternator coming so i'll probably replace it anyway..
