Looking for vacuum leaks with dry ice
We did another test to look for vacuum leaks and thought yall might find it interesting so we video taped it.
We have the UIM off and the four intake ports plugged and are pressurizing the LIM at about 7psi via the boost pressure nipple. We plugged the other vacuum lines with nails.
We bought 10lbs of dry ice which would have been waaaaaaay too much except that it sublimates (converts from solid to gas) really fast. So after two days in the freezer there wasnt much left. 5lbs would have been plenty.
We put it in a small water bucket (like for plants) with a length of heater hose on the spout. Then we broke off maybe a couple of tennis ball sized chucks (while wearing gloves) and put them in the bucket. From another watering can filled with pure hot tap water, we filled the dry ice bucket about half full. If you dont get a fair amount of hot water in there, the dry ice will cool it and freeze it. Then we threw two strips of duct tape on the fill hole of the dry ice bucket to force the vapor out the hose.
Here's the video. We didnt find leaks (which is good) so about a 1/3rd of the way thru the video I pulled one of the nails from one of the solenoid vacuum tubes. With the graininess of the video it is kind of hard to see but if you watch closely you should see the vapor being blown upward so even with low pressure the leaks are pretty obvious.
Oh, and I had my son pouring the vapor while I worked the webcam and the flashlight so if you needed Dramamine to watch Cloverfield I'd take some now!

just get rid of the vacuum spider, and there will be almost nowhere for a vac leak to occur 
also, why didn't you have the UIM attached? most vac leaks tend to be associated with the UIM...

with the engine completely together you could have just forced the gasses through the intake and watched for where the leaked out however this is usually done with a smoke machine, I dont think the vapors from a dry ice bucket would make it through the entire intake system.

I'm being methodical in looking for vacuum leaks. the one I feared would be a LIM to block leak. But I dont seem to have any there.
