Looking for my 7 starting tomorrow... last minute questions/guidance?

Thanks guys for your responses to my previous post. https://www.rx7club.com/vforums/show...threadid=14241

So Friday and Saturday I'm going to be checking out several of the verts I've found on Autotrader. Hopefully I'll find a good one at a nice price. This forum's been a big help and I'm learning stuff all the time, like what an OMP is (It took me a while..).

For the better reliability I'm leaning towards getting an 88 (there are so many too) but there are a couple of 91's I might look at. Some of the 88's have like 140k or so (one even has 190k) though which brings up another question: If the car's been well taken care of, what's a reasonable max-life number for mileage before a new engine's needed? And can I tell just from driving it?

Still, if an 88 + $2k for an engine is still less than a 91, I may just go with that and buy a new heart when it dies. Is $2k a reasonable price for a new engine in Southern California?

Well, hopefully I'll have an RX-7 by the end of the weekend. Anybody have any advice on things to definitely look for that might not be obvious to a 7 newbie? (other than compression testing?) Thanks for the help, everyone!

Kevin

the 89-91 car will be more reliable but it'll cost alot more. a non turbo engine in good condition will last over 200k miles. don't buy one till you get a compression test on it.

After the compression test, just look over the car really good. Make sure all the accessories work, make sure the body seams are tight, make sure the frame underneath the car doesn't look bent, make sure the spare tire and jack compartments aren't rusted, etc..

Are you interested in an '88 vert with 28K original miles? It's in Pittsburgh though.
