Electricle prob(catostrophic)

please, can someone diagnose this problem. I was driving and my car just shut off and I rolled to a stop. No lights nothing. so when I looked in the hood, I saw the EGI fuse blown. On my 89 I put A 60 amp fuse instead of the 30 Because I had a chick in the car and was in a shity town. So I got going but noticed it died if I didnt rev it. So I reved it and kept going 5 seconds later smoke comes in through the car. I park and pop the hood to notice that the whole wiring harness had a couple of black wires with white stripes fried. It stopped frying before it got to the EGI box and dosent run under neath the manifold. On the other side under the attached fuse, thiers the burn red and white wire that goes to a relay and another black and white wire that goes into the car on the drivers side. I dont know why this happend but some wierd **** started happening after I pushed the stereo in really tight. But the stereo shop fixed that and since then ran perfect. .so if anyone knows something please reply. car has been sitting for a month and im going crazy know.

I have the same basic problem. Only i didn't keep the 60a fuse in there for more than a sec. because i knew it would start to melt the bad wire, but i wanted to see where the smoke would come from. I've got an 88 so our wiring may be different. I traced one of the 2 wires that that fuse connects to back to the egi. I'm pretty sure that it is the power to the egi. No egi=no spark, no fuel. I spliced in a new wire between the egi and the fuse box and now i have fuel, but no spark. Now i'm at a loss, i'm going to work on it some more tomorrow so who knows.

I also installed a stereo into the car recently, but had no problems with that, so I hope that is just a coincidence.

Electrical problems are a PITA!&nbsp I charge big money to diagnose and fix these problems.&nbsp It's almost impossible to troubleshoot them long distance, so don't even bother.&nbsp Either you go poking around or pay someone else to do it.&nbsp Sorry to be so harsh, but this is reality...

You can start by going over any and all electrical work you did to the car from when the car died on backward...

Best advice I can give is to download the electrical schematics from the manual located at www.fc3s.org and then disconnect the ecu and ring out each wire from end to end and also check for dead shorts. Those black wires with the white strip are power wires, but you know that. EDIT......Could you be a little more clear about the white and red wire and the location. Are we talking about a white wire with a red stripe or just the oppostite. Is it located on the drivers side of the eng bay near the fuse box? And where is the relay it is going to. In front of the radiator?

jeff88,Hailers

its the red wire with the white stripe that connects dirrectly to the EGI fuse in the box and leads all the way inside the car on the drivers side. As for jeff88 yo I think I do have spark and fuel because every time I try and start the car with a good fuse It will rev up before it blows again. And Hailers I didnt know that was the power wires. That seems to be the only prob. Have the new harness too but the chilton repair manual I studied for hours is really vague and dosent explain that. Thnx a lot for that. im so excited i know what those black w white striped wires are for. Any more .02 will really be helpfull and probly save me money. I will put pics of my car once its running. iF

no luck. I forgot to tell you that the car is currently in the shop. I traded it for meckanics 1st gen so I can get to school.(sacrafice) but got depressed and paid him 300 dollars pluss my exahust to get it back, except I lost his title so before I put it in the shop I have to wait for him to get his title back. It should be in the shop in a week. I will keep you up to date.

That 300 bucks could have been used to get it fixed.

I'd like to take mine to my mechanic also, but unfortunately he doesn't work for free and I have no money for him. Looks like she'll be sitting for awhile longer. Oh well. Damnit.
