Looking for insight 360-400whp turbo 2

I am in the process of taking on a new project this comming month. The car is a 90 turbo 2 with the j spec motor in it. I do not know alot about the turbo rotaries, but in the last year I have built a pheriphial ported 13b and 2 other n/a 13b's that my roomate has worked on.

My main goal is to get upper 300 horsepower to the wheels with a broad powerband. I will sacrifice top power for more usable power.

I plan to rebuild the motor myself which will not be a problem, but I am unsure of what porting works best.

The car will not be street driven, scca club racing, drifiting (once in a while) and solo 2 will be the primary goals of this car.

Suspension, brakes, and safety are already taken care of.

Here is a list of what I think I need:
Koyo radiator
2 electric fans
Rebuild kit w 2mm apex seals
3" downpipe, no cats, 1 resonator (presilencer)
Micro-tech or Power FC (not sure if MT is overkill)
turbo....t04??? (this is my biggest uncertainty)
motor mounts
act sprung clutch
injectors
600 primary 1000 secondary
cosmo fuel pump

do I need to upgrade the turbo manifold, intake manifold and the TB?

Only reason I am asking this is because I cant find a lot of information on single turbo 2's in this forum and the single turbo forum seems to be all FD's

Thanks for any insight

for certain 'club racing,' its probably best to be sure you dont break any rules or get stuck in a group you dont want to be in.
i'm not sure the max power of a Borg Warner TO4B, but you can get them for $375-400 on ebay new.
the exhaust manifold will be replaced, but you can make that power on the stock intake manifold/TB.

i dont know anything about 2 electric fans; most people run one.
rebuild with big streetport or even half bridge.
microtech i would not consider overkill. running a standalone on a stock T2 isn't in my opinion. you have full tuning capabilities. jacobcartmill ran impressive times with minor mods and an e6k.
you can find poly mounts or buy solids from scalliwag; those run $50 opposed to whatever polys cost ($150-200?).

good luck.

I would much rather have solid mounts than the poly ones.

As for the 2 fans, I had just heard about it, wasn't 100% sure because I am having a hard time finding out info about high hp 2nd gens on this site.

I am capable of tuning, I have full standalone on my turbo civic which I tuned myself, but if the power FC is capapble than I would go for that.

AS for racing I cant remeber the specific name ITA??? It is the group SCCA puts all of the turbos cars into I would be against 911 turbos and turbo trans-ams etc. Not what I was hoping for, but I have to go turbo. NASA has some better groups but it is hard to find club racing for a turbo car

geez, i cant remember all the names for production cars. i dont know ITA's rules or all the classes.
i never hear much about power FCs for 2nd gens, but i dont know. i would go haltech, but i think its most because many people can work with it including people i know.
there's a few high powered second gens around. someone may post their setup. i know one guy running a half bridge who recently dyno'd, but i havent heard his numbers yet (should be ~400whp). i believe a 60-1 will make over 400 (i think thats what my friend had when he made 440whp on a streetport). turbos confuse me, honestly. i'm just not exposed to them much.

scalliwag sells the solid motor mounts on ebay (as well as tranny ($20-30) and diff mounts ($80-100)), or you could probably PM him. he also has the bolts and nuts you can buy if you dont feel like buying your own.

BDoty311 has his AE at 408rwhp, car consists of, TO4 60-1 w/ custom manifold, Spearco FMIC, Haltek EMS, ACT 6 puck clutch, dp/mp, apexi n1 exhaust. And other small items. Pretty sure that was at 15psi.

Damn Chris, I need to take you around with me so you can brag about my car.

For the fuel I have 1600s and 720s controlled by a Haltech E6K, pumped by a Walbro. The engine is a mildly streetported S5 turbo motor. If you have any other questions, just let me know.

wow, 408 to the wheels that is awsome. I would like to know more about your setup. What seals are you using, and how is the response with that turbo? I am bit sceptical of a 60-1 but if you can reach 10lbs of boost around 3500 i think I could live with that, my civic wouldnt hit 10lbs untill 4500 in 2nd and 3800 in 3rd, which was good for me beause of FWD traction problems.

Anyways just let me know how the low end response is, and since I will be running just a downpipe spool up should be quicker.

Was using stock 2mm mazda seals, until I blew an apex seal due to predetenation. I'm going to be running rotary aviation 2mm seals when I get my motor back together.

The car is my first turbo car, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. The powerband reminds me of my streetported n/a. Basically not much of anything until 3,500rpm, then by 4,500-5,000rpms you better hold on, and anything above that is ridiculous.

at what psi was 400 hp reached? I am still looking for turbo sizes but I think I can get away with a bit smaller turbo and run more boost on that.

Any track times with your setup?

And what was the cause of detonation? I run 2 step colder plugs on my honda and the standalone system I use allows me to retard timing dependant on boost, so I am curious with your engine management why pre ign was a problem

I'm pretty sure it was 15psi. The best he ran was 12.5 at 113 I think. The previous owner threw slicks on it at ran a 11.7.
